Job Details

Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance: Manage the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for tax optimization.

Tax Planning: Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while maximizing cash flow and shareholder value. Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external advisors to identify opportunities for tax savings and risk mitigation.

Financial Reporting: Oversee the tax provision process, including the calculation of quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with GAAP. Collaborate with the finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Audit Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for tax audits and inquiries from regulatory authorities. Coordinate responses to auditor requests and ensure compliance with audit procedures.

Risk Management: Assess tax risks and exposures related to business activities and transactions. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate tax risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Tax Research: Stay informed about changes in tax laws, regulations, and rulings relevant to the utilities industry. Conduct research and analysis to assess the impact of proposed tax legislation and develop recommendations for management.

Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, providing guidance and support to facilitate their professional growth and development. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the tax department.

Qualifications:

CPA certification required.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on tax services for utility clients.
Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, particularly those relevant to the utilities industry.
Proven track record of developing and implementing tax strategies to optimize financial performance.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and provide practical recommendations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve common goals.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
