Title: Nurse Aide Work Unit: School Site Reports To: Principal/Lead Nurse Contract Length: 9 months Pay Schedule: Education Behavior Health Associate Overtime Status: Exempt Hours: 7 hours per day Union Status: NEA Licensure: NMPED Health Assistant All positions with Santa Fe Public Schools require a post offer/pre-employment background check. Some positions have additional requirements as established by Federal or State Rules and Regulations. General Function: Assists the PED licensed registered school nurse with the implementation of the school health program, by providing delegated nursing services in the health office and/or performing delegated nursing tasks in the care of individual students with special needs. Education/Training/Experience (Basic minimum requirements are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District.) Minimum: High school graduate or equivalent. Current valid standard American Red Cross first aid certificate and current valid CPR certificate (can be obtained on the job). 18 years of age. Must have a valid current driver license. Preferred: Certified Nurse Aide. Bilingual Spanish/English Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge of clerical work, including computers, typing and office procedures. Ability to conduct hearing and vision screening tests (Can be obtained while on the job). Basic first aid and CPR. Confidentiality as prescribed by HIPAA/FERPA policies. Interpersonal communication skills both written and oral with diverse populations, including students, parents, co-workers and supervisors. Competency in delegated nursing tasks such as tube-feeding, diapering, range of motion exercises, feeding assistance, catheterization (may be taught on the job). Ability to maintain student health records, collect data and report it to the PED licensed registered school nurse. Ability to maintain equipment and a clean orderly health office. Essential Job Functions All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include the following: Collects and reports data regarding health status of students, under the direction and supervision of the PED licensed registered nurse. Assists with routine vision, hearing, height and weight screening; Assists with the monitoring of students per individualized health care plan; Shares relevant information/observations with the PED licensed registered nurse. Implements aspects of the nursing plan of care, commensurate with training and verified competency, under the direction and supervision of the PED licensed registered nurse. Performs student-specific delegated nursing procedures and treatments in accordance with the individualized health plan Assists with student self administration of medications in accordance with school district medication policy and in compliance with the NM Nursing Practice Act. Assists with the implementation of policies and procedures regarding the control communicable diseases in schools. Performs basic first aid and CPR, as needed. Assists with the maintenance of student health records, including immunization records, and shares relevant information with the PED licensed registered nurse. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with state and federal laws and district policy. Shares responsibility for the care of district inventory, as well as the proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, reporting safety hazards promptly. Maintains a clean, organized and orderly health room environment. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with diverse populations, including students, parents, co-workers and supervisor(s). Displays a desire to work with students and responds to students as individuals. Serves as a healthy role model for students, families and staff. Maintains competency through training and in-service educational activities. Other duties as assigned. Salary Range: Based on education and experience $26,000+ Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to): New Mexico School Health Manual (Dept. of Health), Quality Nursing Interventions in the School Setting: Procedures, Models and Guidelines (NASN, Hootman), computer, audiometer, sphygmomanometer, otoscope, electronic thermometer, wheelchair and other medical equipment required by the individual student's healthcare plan. Physical/Cognitive Requirements: Regularly lifts and moves up to 25 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping and lifting. Physical strength and ability to assist injured students and staff members in emergency situations by positioning or moving, following established procedures. Use hands and arms to manipulate equipment, tools, keyboards, or other objects. Sit and stand for long periods of time. Regularly exposed to disease and injury. Environmental Conditions: Most work is performed in an indoor setting at a school site. However, there is possible travel to other campus locations to assist in emergencies. Personal Accountability: Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness Begins and completes work within the allotted time Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/special application Protects the District's resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury
