SURVEY TECHNICIAN Salary: 110 - $ 30,998.00 minimum salary. Purpose of Classification Performs professional work in survey support of assigned planning and development programs or function. Duties include surveying fields and assisting with operations of survey equipment. Positions in this class perform routine technical and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies; answer questions; and maintain documents and records. Essential Functions The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Conducts cross-sectional, trace contour, controlling point, and grid method topographical surveys. Surveys land by researching available recorded information, locating street intersections in the field, and setting a monument at each survey point. Operates field computer to retain data; downloads data to database. Researches property deeds, plats, easements, etc., prior to surveying in order to ascertain property lines. Drafts and designs drawings of the existing conditions of platted land. Reads blueprints, deeds, plats, maps and easements. Maintains field notes and drawings for all surveys conducted. Assists in Field surveying using the auto level, total station and data recorder; downloads information into the computer. Provides assistance and information to employees, managers, vendors, citizens, local businesses, and/or and other interested parties regarding assigned surveying functions; serves as liaison between supervisors, vendors, and other departments in regards to department policies and activities. Explains policies and procedures. Prepares various department documents requiring knowledge of department policies, programs, and procedures and which may involve researching, compiling, analyzing, retrieving and/or summarizing data. Additional Functions Performs other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. ADA Compliance Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (20-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion at a keyboard or work station. Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions. This position is subject to a six (6) month probationary period prior to Civil Service eligibility. Must submit to a Civil Service Clerical Exam.
