Job Summary: Works with the perioperative team, under the supervision of the nursing staff, in providing safe and effective care to the surgical patient. Is responsible for maintaining instrumentation, maintaining equipment, stocking of supplies, cleaning of the department, and coordinating cleaning/preparation/sterilization of instrumentation in the Sterile Processing department. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to all populations. Exhibits responsibility for departmental and personal work schedules. Maintains current knowledge and practice of Anderson Surgery Center policies and procedures. Conducts self in a professional manner. Demonstrates the principles of surgical aseptic technique by following policy and procedures. Engages in activities to expand and/or enhance the professional role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practice. Performs patient care in a safe and effective manner. Appropriately sets up operating rooms with equipment and supplies for procedures and obtains additional supplies/equipment for the procedure according to physician's preference cards. Facilitates interventions in accordance with patient's established plan of care and provides appropriate interventions for the patient undergoing surgical intervention. Follows policy and procedures for cleaning, disinfecting and sterilization of scopes and instruments. Follows policy and procedure for environmental cleaning and housekeeping. Follows policy and procedure for supply management within the Anderson Surgery Center. Stocks patient rooms daily and as needed to assure all necessary supplies are available before patient enters the room. Works with the perioperative team to build and maintain provider preference cards. Cross training as needed within other areas of the Anderson Surgery Center. Other duties may be assigned by the Surgery Center Director as necessary to facilitate the functions of Anderson Surgery Center. Work hours or shifts may be changed as necessary in order to provide adequate staffing for the department. Qualifications Education Requirements and Other Requirements: Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent. Surgical Technology diploma from an accredited program or documented on-the-job training program Certification/Licensure: CPR Certification from American Heart Association. Certified Surgical Technologist preferred. Experience Requirements: One year surgical technician experience preferred. Working Conditions: Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
