Eligible for a $7500 sign on bonus POSITION SUMMARY Facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team. This position provides care for or assistance to patients of all ages, including newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Education and Experience Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program; or 2+ years of surgical scrub experience coupled with related clinical training (i.e. LPN, Military). CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or associated professional certification preferred. License/Certificates American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire. If LPN, must maintain MN LPN license. ESSENTIAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES Performs scrub, second circulator, sterile processing, and supply duties under the supervision of the registered nurse in the area. Functions well with other team members and shows initiative and judgment in anticipating the needs of the team. Other duties may be assigned. Function independently as a surgical technologist during operative and other invasive procedures by: assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure; preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure; performing accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator; assisting with placement of sterile drapes; providing instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure; maintaining an organized sterile field; ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed; wound closure (after demonstrating competency) preparing sterile dressings carrying out duties safely and using safety devices provided to protect self and others reporting safety hazards as appropriate Working collaboratively in departmental quality improvement activities and assisting in data gathering. Serving as a technical subject-matter expert. Assisting in the orientation of new staff members. Educating one on new technical procedures and infection control methods. Assisting with ordering supplies and putting them away. supply needs regarding the surgical schedule. Promoting service excellence by demonstrating polite, cooperative, and respectful behavior to both internal and external customers. Assuming responsibility for completing mandatory educational requirements and staying up to date on changes in recommended practices and standards of care. Safeguards security and confidentiality of data/information according to HIPAA guidelines. This position may include irregular working hours based on the surgical schedule.
