POSITION SUMMARY To be fully engaged in providing uncompromised safety, superior quality, memorable patient/customer experiences, and financial stewardship by assisting the nursing and anesthesia team in the care of the surgical patient and efficiency of procedures under the supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager. The Surgical Staff Assistant will also be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of patients and equipment. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Assembles and assists with specific equipment used by surgical staff or anesthesia providers. 2. Performs daily performance checks on anesthesia machines and disinfects anesthesia equipment as needed. 3. Completes daily stocking assignments. 4. Assists with cleaning and surgical room turnover in a safe and efficient manner. 5. Maintains organized environment to reduce waste. 6. Anticipates needs of clinical team to provide efficient support. 7. Assists with patient positioning and other appropriate duties as assigned by management. 8. Personally facilitates the safe, efficient, and expedited movement of patients to and from surgical services via stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, and cribs; ensures all patient's belongings, paperwork, labs, and equipment accompany them to their destination. 9. Applies Tele Pak Monitor on patient when required, follows process for ensuring patient rhythm is visible and verifies with monitor tech. 10. Cleans stretcher and wheelchair after each patient transport with hospital approved germicidal product. 11. Monitors patient while enroute and responds immediately and appropriately should patient require emergent assistance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Certification: Must hold current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Exceptional organizational skills with ability to anticipate needs and perform multiple tasks Excellent interpersonal communication skills to establish good rapport with surgeons, patients and associates Ability to travel to all facilities as required Ability to flex schedule to meet department needs Ability to work effectively in a stressful, fast paced environment Ability to transport patients using stretcher, wheelchair, and other conveyances PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Work Experience: Previous surgical or operating room experience PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Medium Physically agile; may require walking, standing running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing or crouching frequently Medium work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with or without assistance May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or over head May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to loud noise May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC Guidelines. Communicating with others to exchange information. Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle
