Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director (AD), Commercial Supply Chain Risk Management will aid in formulating and executing, optimizing, stabilizing, and scaling of the new Risk Management framework and overall Risk Management strategy to ensure it keeps pace with the growth of the company and Commercial Manufacturing and Supply Chain (CMSC). The Associate director will also play a role in the oversight of the CMSC Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Resilience program in collaboration with key stakeholders across CMSC. In addition, the Associate Director will collaborate with all key stakeholder groups across Vertex such as Quality Assurance, Global Security and Corporate Risk Management to ensure alignment and visibility to risks and the process of risk management. This could develop into a people management role in the future.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role you will be required to be onsite in Boston, MA 3 days per week. You may also elect to be onsite 5 days per week with ad hoc flexibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for overseeing the overall execution of Commercial Manufacturing and Supply Chain risk management strategy, processes, and tools.
  • Represents Commercial Manufacturing and Supply Chain at Mid- to Senior-Leader level forums, communicating overall risk profile and mitigations.
  • Oversees and ensures collaboration with internal and external key stakeholders to manage supply chain risks from identification through mitigation.
  • Maintain risk database for assigned program(s) or modality, and facilitates monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc risk review meetings with key stakeholders, and at different leadership forums.
  • Establishes and monitors key performance metrics for the supply chain risk management and Business Continuity processes.
  • Represents Supply Chain on projects related to risk mitigation and business continuity, and leads routine risk review meetings with key stakeholders such as Quality and Corporate Risk Management, and others as needed.
  • Develops and maintain BCPs with input from the different functions to ensure relevant and up-to-date disaster recovery strategies are reflected in the BCPs, and coordinates with Global Security and the Corporate Risk Management and Business Continuity & Resilience Office the business continuity plans are stored in Riskonnect.
  • As pipeline programs reach commercialization, the AD may transition to support a specific modality, or strictly Business Continuity Planning & Resiliency processes and activities.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring of junior level employees and managers
  • Manages and allocates resources to ongoing and future initiatives, to continue to refine and scale the Risk Management program into new product and market launches
  • Offers risk-based perspective on suppliers across the supply chain networks for all commercially approved products and informs leadership and other key stakeholders to influence commercial decisions related to suppliers.
  • Utilizes domain knowledge and best practices to influence and devise effective, and time-bound risk mitigation strategies.
  • Influences peers and the leadership team to make risk-based decisions, continue to support the use of best risk management practices, and the holistic integration, communication, and life cycle management of interrelated risks across the organization.
  • Identifies and communicates best practices and market trends impacting the risk management discipline, especially those with a potential effect on the Biopharmaceuticals sector, and complex, global supply chains, and keeps leadership and key stakeholders abreast of such trends.

TECHNICAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated ability to get results without authority
  • Proven track record with risk evaluation/management - Supply chain risk management preferred
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Previous experience conducting risk assessment
  • Past experience with risk management systems (i.e. Riskonnect) BCP and ERM modules (or similar ERM and BCP systems)
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Strong overall business acumen
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist in the execution of projects of diverse scope and complexity

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE LEVELS:

  • B.S. degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in Supply Chain, Business, Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, and 8+ years relevant work experience in a regulated industry
