Summary You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the FIRE DEPARTMENT of NAVAL AIR STATION FALLON. THIS POSITION IS FOR A FIRE CHIEF Duties You will serve as a program manager of multiple fire and emergency service programs. You will direct the physical inspection of facilities to detect or reduce potential fire hazards. You will interpret agency fire regulations for fire prevention and fire suppression. You will maintain awareness of changes in federal, state, or local fire service ordinances and laws to convey information to junior employees. You will brief senior leaders or other employees on maters on firefighting actives, personnel, and equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements: Candidates for firefighter positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment. Information on exceptions and waivers: You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance while employed in the subject position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Selectee must obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101. This position is considered Key/Non-Combat Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support of the expeditionary requirements in other than combat or combat support situations. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Advising the command and senior leadership on fire protection and related emergency response activities; 2) Explaining the principles and theories of fire investigation to determine the cause of fire and recommend corrective actions; 3) Developing and implementing the hazardous materials (HAZMAT) program; 4) Assisting the Regional Fire Chief in determining long and short range requirements for resources (i.e. manpower, equipment, facilities, contract services, and staff support) to meet customer needs. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-12: Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Airport Firefighter, HAZMAT Incident Commander. National Registry Emergency Medical Technician is preferred. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or Pro Board to meet the requirement. PHYSICAL DEMANDS :Employee must be able to perform fire ground management duties under stress when carrying out the scope of this position. Directing firefighting and rescue operations at major fires or related emergencies requires alertness, self-control, and emotional stability in order to lead and direct personnel under conditions of extreme stress. Physical endurance and tolerance is vital and requires an annual physical. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The majority of the work is performed in an office setting, but at times directs firefighting and rescue operations at major fires or related emergencies which frequently involves being exposed to inclement weather, safety and occupational health hazards, or additional demands and hazards where conditions cannot be controlled.
