Position Overview:

Directs the staff in their work assignments, troubleshoots equipment problems, and acts as a resource for technical or clinical information. Provides training to other staff on equipment operation, and new procedures/protocols. Works with management team to maintain manuals. May prepare the staffing schedules, including the on-call schedule.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

SUPERVISION OF ULTRASOUND:

• Oversees overall Ultrasound operations in all acute and non-acute entities within and associated with the affiliate.

• Ensures Ultrasound procedures/systems are functioning at optimal levels and evaluates processes regularly for continuous improvement.

• Ensures Ultrasound services are provided in an effective and timely manner. Ensures departmental procedures and processes are periodically reviewed for the potential to further improve the services provided.

• Strategically plans and prioritizes Ultrasound services. Develops improved techniques and practices that will enhance services.

COORDINATION/INTEGRATION:

Ensures effective integration and coordination of Ultrasound services within the affiliate's medical center as follows:

• Coordinates and integrates services, resources (staff, space, equipment, supplies, etc.), and programs to ensure high quality, cost effective, and coordinated services. Identifies new opportunities for coordinating and consolidating services that will improve service and/or reduce cost.

• Develops routine, effective planning and communication monthly meetings or "Team Forums" for direct reports.

• Routinely monitors all areas of responsibility and regularly meets with all Ultrasound staff.

• Processes/Systems: When appropriate, implements changes in diagnostic imaging departmental processes which will streamline operations and create state-of-the-art functions that will result in greater cost effectiveness and improved quality.

• Products: Strives for standardization in the areas of supplies, equipment, and service agreements that will result in cost savings as well as continue to meet satisfaction levels of customers/users. Participates in area and system wide processes related to standardization.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:

Ensures cost effective financial management and efficient use of all resources as follows:

• Ensures the cost effective operation of Ultrasound Services. In collaboration with the manager/director, establishes effective routine monitoring and reporting systems for operating budgets and productivity. Ensures corrective action plans are developed and implemented promptly to address unfavorable variances.

• Ensures appropriate resources exist to provide services to medical center units, Emergency Department, and outpatient physician offices.

• Identifies and implements cost savings and revenue initiatives

• Establishes and monitors productivity systems. Implements routine monitoring and comparisons of similar-type facilities.

• Demonstrates continual focus on improving service levels and reducing non-salary costs for all services.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:

Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting agencies.

• Continually monitors quality of services provided and effectively initiates changes as needed.

• Participates in and gathers data as requested for the Quality Performance Improvement Program in Diagnostic Imaging.

• Assures that technologists are following established procedures/protocols for exams

• Ensures that all Diagnostic Imaging departments are in compliance with the Joint Commission (TJC), Title 22, Title 17, facility administrative and/or medical staff policies, and all other regulatory agency or facility requirements.

• Ensures timely preventive maintenance is provided for each piece of equipment.

• Actively participates on other committees.

Human Resources:

• Develops and motivates assigned staff to actively support and participate in the affiliate or regional objectives and focus.

• Team Building: Creates creative, participative method s and forums that will build "team" efforts of staff.

• Implements staff development efforts to ensure staff competence.

Technical oversight, Committees and Projects:

• Technical competence in area of registration/certification.

• Through professional networking, publications and educational forums, ensures professional/operational knowledge consistently remains as progressive, state-of-the-art level.

• Actively participates in, role models and supports the Sutter standards.

• Projects: Performs other and various projects related to department services and issues as requested by manager or director.

EDUCATION:


Graduate from an accredited sonography program

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

ARDMS-American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

5 years of recent relevant experience.



SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and pathology.

Complete understanding of Ultrasound methodology, equipment and radiopharmaceuticals is required.

A comprehensive knowledge of all The Joint Commission (TJC), Title 22, Title 17, State, federal, state licensing and other local regulations as they relate to Diagnostic Imaging Services is preferred.

Knowledge of technological advancements, equipment, sophisticated diagnostic imaging equipment for all services, and other state-of-the art departmental specific systems is desirable.

Team leadership and organizational skills are required.

An ability to prioritize multiple demands is critical.

Written and oral communication skills

An ability to build teams as well as consensus is desirable.

Effective interpersonal skills are required.

Must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently.

Will maintain all technical skills in the area of certification and competent to perform all related duties as an Ultrasound technologist.

Pay Range is $80.75 to $109.00 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
