Summary: Nursing Supervisor provides leadership and clinical expertise to enhance professional nursing education and development and shares responsibility to integrate evidence-based standards of nursing practice into patient care. Provides clinical and administrative direction and support for the Nursing Department and the entire hospital for an assigned shift. Serves as the on-site, administrative leader to staff, patients, visitors and physicians during the shift. Collaborates on administrative decisions with other department leaders for issues related to their departments in the absence of that manager. Education: BSN and MSN preferred. Current RI RN license. The Nursing Supervisor must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. Must also earn 10 CEU annually. Licensure: Current Rhode Island RN license. Experience: Previous critical care clinical and management experience preferred. At least two years as an RN in an acute care setting required. Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: The ability to perform this role requires that the candidate demonstrate no physical limitations in delivering patient care, including lifting and moving patients (weighing up to 200 lbs.) and certain pieces of job related equipment. Contact with body fluids requires knowledge and application of universal precautions. Requires mental alertness, stamina to work in a fast-paced environment and in emergency situations. Basic safety training must be completed annually. In addition, attends all related Safety Training programs; communicates and implements measures to ensure a safe workplace.
