Position Description
POSITION SUMMARY

The Superintendent must work safely and productively on various sized Concrete Construction project sites. A successful candidate in this role must be highly motivated and willing to complete any task assigned, along with performing the essential duties of the Superintendent position. All employees are expected to communicate, always build relationships with other team members, and use good judgment. The Superintendent is expected to have the ability to perform all duties of the positions preceding it in its specific career path, while being responsible and accountable to complete any other tasks assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Ensuring Safety

Ensuring that all applicable WB, OSHA and Project Specific safety rules, regulations and guidelines are always understood and adhered to by WB personnel on-site.

•  Be knowledgeable in the applicable OSHA requirements for the specific types of work you will be performing. Require that all workers adhere to them, and request third party voluntary inspections and correct deficiencies.
•  Recognize potential safety and risk/loss situations prior to mobilizing and develop a plan to address these with the WB Safety Department to plan for requirements through safe work methods, weekly safety meetings with work force, secure site storage, lockouts, and lighting. Review plan with Safety Manager, Field Safety Supervisor, PM and client.
•  Familiarize and map the direct route(s) to local hospitals, Urgent Care Facilities, and educate all employees of each facility's location. Seek help from the WB Safety Team in locating and mapping these facilities.
•  Advise other trades of safety violations, and if ignored, advise client.
•  Regard Safety as a priority on par with Quality and Production.
•  Implement and adhere to the WB Corporate Safety and Health Program, including Company Hazardous Communication, Drug Use Policy, Site Specific Safety Plan, or any other rules or regulations as required by our client.
•  Review next week's and current safety plan at each week's WB safety meeting and at each client weekly job site meeting.
•  Plan safety in every part of each day's activities. Be intolerant of violations or excuses by other parties and require prompt correction.
•  Troubleshoot and solve any special problems as they arise on the job site in order to: (a) keep employees safe, (b) ensure the work activities remain on schedule and (c) that we "Safely Exceed the Expectations" of the client.
•  Perform all assigned roles, responsibilities, and related work processes/tasks in the safest possible manner. Ensure that a safe, accident/incident-free work environment is maintained for all co-workers, customers, clients, suppliers, etc. at all times.

Planning

Planning the assembling of concrete form building related work functions to be performed on assigned construction projects in cooperation with the supervising WB project manager and in accordance with all Contract Documents. Use WB "Project Startup Checklist" to:
•   Review and understand all Contract Documents, including, but not limited to: project drawings, specifications,schedules, sketches, estimates, client schedule, and the Contract.
•  Take notes about unusual items or details. Mark sections and/or portions of the project drawings with a color code to avoid confusion and separate work items. Highlight any special instructions, dimensions, and locations for easy identification.
•  Calculate concrete quantities of all company work and major formwork items
•  Review "scopes of work" for WB and subcontractors.
•  Conduct constructability review with PM estimating (1) recommended construction strategy, (2) subcontract start and completion dates, (3) plans versus existing conditions, and (4) cost reductions.
•  Provide PM with recommendations on design or method improvements necessary for actual construction.
•  Assist PM in bar-chart schedule development based on agreed upon production rates. Check these rates vs. estimated rates.
•  Assist PM in establishing crew size, production rates, crew leadership, based on project schedule.
•  List all equipment/tool demands necessary throughout the job and estimate length of time required for each type.
•  Conduct site inspection and attend pre-construction conference as soon as possible; meeting with client representatives.
Mobilizing

Working with WB Project Manager, Equipment Fleet Manager and Dispatcher, to ensure that all building materials, supplies and equipment necessary to begin the project are identified and delivered to the construction site prior to the start-up of the project.
•  Submit equipment and tool needs to Equipment Fleet Manager. Discuss tool/equipment responsibilities. Check with Project Engineer and Project Manager for approved pricing from local vendors.
•  Set up WB Office and Tool trailer(s). Assist in installation and delivery of utilities and temp. services.
•  Arrange, through the Equipment Group, for the delivery, use and return of all light and heavy equipment (WB owned or rented) to/from the job site according to pre-established work needs and schedule.
•  Organize the building site to stage the materials and supplies (e.g., lumber, rebar, forms, etc.) prior to starting WB construction activities of the project.

Procuring

Providing (ordering, renting, etc.) and scheduling delivery of building materials, supplies and equipment as necessary for completing construction activities on a daily basis.
•  Assist in keeping current resource reports including equipment allocation, manpower requirements, and materials inventory. Keep original records of material submittals, shop drawings, and MSDS on site for reference.
•  Expedite materials after PM approval, buyout, and purchase order approval.
•  Notify PM of late deliveries or failed commitments of all suppliers.
•  Create two and three-week look ahead schedules to determine the dates of materials needed and identify any long lead-time items. Staffing

Ensuring that appropriate personnel are available to complete construction activities, adhering to all WB and OSHA Safety Standards, WB Quality Standards, within budget and on schedule.
•  Coordinate the interviewing and hiring of any "locally employed" craft-level workers through and with the Human Resources Dept. as necessary to finish the building project on schedule.
•  Supervise WB craft-level workers assigned to the specific project.
•  Cooperate with other WB Superintendents to transfer craft-level workers to various job sites as necessary.
•  Make recommendations on pay, promotion, and discharge decisions related to Craft-level personnel. Constructing

Working with the Client's Site Superintendent and WB Project Manager to complete form building activities within the overall building project's scope and schedule.
•  Work with the WB Project Manager to lay out the assigned building project in accordance with: (a) building plan specifications and (b) WB quality/accuracy standards for this work process.
•  Establish a "benchmark" on the site.
•  Mark discrepancies on drawings, notify PM of any design situations, and obtain client authorization to vary.
•  Assist PM in obtaining any answers to design problems. Assist PM in reviewing design discrepancies and field changes at weekly job meetings. Provide technical assistance, interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment.
•  Handling and scheduling related building activities on a daily basis with other WB Group's work functions at the job site (i.e., finishing, grading, and equipment) with the appropriate WB Group Managers/Superintendent(s) and Project Manager as necessary . Supervising and coordinating Core Building Group equipment operators in the preparation of job sites for construction operations/activities of the group. These operations include, but are not limited to, the following:
•  Digging
•  Back-filling
•  Placing Stone
•  Transporting Materials and Supplies
•  Supervise and coordinate the excavation of all footings and poured to blueprint and layout specifications.
•  Supervise and coordinate the building of concrete forms (specialized or patented) for slabs, walls, piers, columns, steps/stairs, sidewalks, etc.
•   Supervise and coordinate the placement of rebar and any other reinforcing material into the concrete form as per job blueprints/specifications.
•   Order any concrete necessary to complete a pour.
•   Supervise and coordinate the pour process.
•   Supervise and coordinate the stripping of concrete forms.
•   Supervise and coordinate "clean up" activities at a WB construction site on a daily basis.
•  Apprise PM immediately of any potential problem affecting safety, quality, contract time, budget, and conditions, and make recommendations or state action taken. Coordinate with suppliers to remedy problems.
