Job Summary:
Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Superintendent will oversee the execution of milling and paving projects. Primary responsibilities will be oversight and supervision of interstate projects normally conducted at night. He or she will supervise field employees, order materials, manage subcontractors, and coordinate with customers and sales personnel to complete projects in accordance with Palmer's commitment to production, quality, and safety. This is a superintendent position in Heavy Highway Asphalt Paving industry. Prior experience is required.

Essential Functions:
1. Respect and engage. Participate in activities to support Senior Management. Gather complete project information from Management and Sales Personnel. Attend pre-construction meetings as required.
2. Compulsive tinkering. Conduct thorough investigation of work site prior to mobilization, to ensure preparedness.
3. Determine project-specific staffing and equipment requirements, and coordinate with Dispatch.
4. Order construction materials (liquid calcium chloride, Portland cement, liquid asphalt, etc.) and track quantities to verify that usage is in accordance with budgeted quantities.
5. Clearly assign daily tasks to field employees and supervise their progress.
6. Engage with Quality Control staff as needed to ensure work product is in accordance with specifications.
7. Protect family and friends. Conduct site safety meetings with field personnel. Promote a safety-oriented culture and operate within all applicable OSHA and company safety standards.
8. Mastery. Engage with customers' representatives and inspectors to execute a project that is mutually satisfactory. Palmer's customer base consists of municipal public works departments, state DOT's, general contractors, housing developers, and homeowners' associations.
9. Review employee time sheets for accuracy.
10. Complete all projects within budget constraints.



Requirements, Education and Experience:
1. 5+ years of relevant construction experience
2. Extensive knowledge of construction operations and specifications.
3. Ability to read plans and specifications.
4. Excellent Leadership skills.
5. Strong attention to detail.
6. Excellent Communication and Collaborative Skills.
7. Ability to Multi-Task.
8. Thorough understanding of job cost.
9. Ability to make quick and thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced environment.
10. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
11. Basic PC skills including email and spreadsheet applications.

Travel:
This position requires some out-of-state and overnight travel. It is anticipated that the majority of work will be in Massachusetts region, although a wider geographic reach could be expected.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This position will require the Superintendent to be highly mobile and work in a very dynamic environment, depending on the time of year and operational workload. This position requires significant portions of the season to be worked at night on the interstate.
