Summary:

Vaxcyte's Summer Internship program offers students with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience that complements their college curriculum with relevant hands-on work that can shape their future career pathing and interests.

As a USP Protein Development Intern for Vaxcyte, you will work on a project as outlined below:
Determine kLa in several vessel configurations ( 0.3f , ambr250, 50L) using the sulfite depletion method.
Successful kLa determination will reach comparable numbers to other in-house generated values and/or literature values.
Tune control loops for DO in the BioFlo controller: compare responsivity in 3L vessel to 50L vessel.
Successful tuning would create an appropriately damped response to varying DO setpoints after nitrogen sparges.

The Intern will learn and practice: kLa using sulfite depletion method, ordering, and receiving reagents, manipulating the bioflo controller, setting up bioreactor vessels (dasbox, bioflo 3L, 50L), PID tuning of pilot bioflo (DO specifically), reading/defining a protocol, altering control parameters, and building a presentation and sharing results with group members.

Program Details:

Internship will begin in June and will be 8-10 weeks (6-8 hours per day) in duration at our San Carlos, California location.
Requirements:
    • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student with at least 1 year at university completed) with a focus on Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Strong attention to detail and work quality.
    • Demonstrates collaboration and teamwork.
    • Enthusiastic-Shows curiosity and is eager to learn.
    • Dedicated.

Reports to: Scientist I, Upstream Development

Location: San Carlos, CA

Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is $20-$23 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on year of university/college completed. The Summer Internship position will not be eligible for benefits and relocation and housing will not be offered.
