• Greenbush - The Southeast Kansas Education Service Center is seeking applications for Summer Greenhouse Interns in Girard. Anticipated start date: 05/28/2024. Job Summary: This position will be trained and responsible for general greenhouse maintenance throughout the summer. This could be planting, harvesting, record keeping, cleaning, nutrient management, and much more, under the supervision of our Horticulture and Outdoor Education Coordinator. The Greenbush Hydroponic greenhouse consists of a large hydroponic NFT system, a grow tower, and a bato bucket system. We are currently growing basil, tomatoes, strawberries, and six varieties of lettuce. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: A valid driver's license is required for employment. REAL ED is required if air travel is necessary to complete job duties. Applicant must be a minimum of 15 years of age with transportation to and from work. Preferred: An interest in horticulture. FFA, 4-H, or Agriculture student looking to complete a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE). RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions: Daily Tasks and Skills include but are not limited to: Food Safety Greenhouse Procedures Seeding Transferring Harvesting Labeling Testing and adjusting water parameters Reservoir and pump maintenance Nutrient addition and replacement Pollination Basic pest, disease, and fungal identification and treatment Documentation and record keeping Inventory Inspection logs General Responsibilities: Maintain timely documentation. Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center (SEKESC). Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. Maintain strict confidentiality as outlined by FERPA and HIPAA. Ability to work alone and in groups to provide services. Maintain professional relationships with families. Assume responsibility for individual professional growth by staying current with literature, research, and/or practices. Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to effectively and regularly communicate with other employees of the SEKESC and constituents. Complete all assignments in a timely manner including communication with other staff and families. Follow all safety requirements as directed by the SEKESC. Regular and predictive attendance in the designated work location as determined by the Executive Director or designee. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Lifting up to 50 pounds. Manage all job duties with mobility, agility, and dexterity. Sit/stand for long periods of time. Work in loud/stressful environments. Ability to drive in varying weather and geographical conditions. Being exposed to infectious and contagious diseases. Being exposed to hazardous materials. Being exposed to work settings that offer a risk to personal security and that are not ADA compliant. Being exposed and working in a warm outdoor environment.
