Sanctuary for Families is New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 12 locations throughout New York City.


POSITION OVERVIEW

Sanctuary for Families is currently looking for a part-time temporary Summer Camp Assistant during the summer for Sanctuary's Camp HOPE America - New York program. Launched in 2018, Camp HOPE America - New York is an evidence-based trauma informed sleep-away camping program for teens, 12-17 years old. Camp HOPE America - New York offers teens the experience of your typical sleep-away camp, but with a trauma informed lens with a focus on finding hope by identifying our dreams and finding pathways to achieve those dreams through support from the adults and our peers around us. Camp HOPE America - New York is part of our Youth Leadership Program, located within our Children and Family Services Program in our Clinical Department.


This position requires a commitment of 9 weeks over the Summer, from June 17, 2024 through August 16, 2024. The role is under the supervision of our Youth Program Coordinator.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist teens who have been exposed to or experienced IPV or Gender Based Violence
  • Coordinating with campers and parents on camp related needs.
  • Providing families with camp details and updates.
  • Ordering and organizing material supplies and paperwork.
  • Prepping for all camp-related events during the time of the internship.
  • Assisting with creating a digital manual for the Camp HOPE America - New York team.
  • Keeping tracking of all client and staff camp related documents.
  • Attending any relevant trainings
  • Participating in weekly team meetings
Requirements:
  • High school graduate; 1or 2 years of college preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team
  • Experience or interest in working directly with teens and on issues of gender violence is a strong asset, as is coursework in social work.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn with a proactive approach to tasks and responsibilities
  • Proficiency in a foreign language, particularly Spanish, is helpful but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a commitment to social justice

Budgeted Salary: $20 - $20 per hour


Work position is temporary Part-time /21 hours/wk - Hourly/Non-Exempt - Work hours will be scheduled between Monday and Friday, with flexibility around the exact weekdays and hours

Work schedule currently Hybrid; must be able to meet job location schedule obligations
