Position Purpose: The Subsurface Utility Engineer Team Lead is responsible for leading and managing a team of subsurface utility engineers and technicians. The role involves overseeing the collection, identification, and mapping of existing subsurface utility data to support the design and construction of various engineering projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians in the design, planning, and execution of subsurface utility engineering projects.
  • Ensure compliance with ASCE 38, "Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data."
  • Coordinate with project managers and other engineering disciplines to integrate utility data with project designs.
  • Manage field surveys, topographic, and utility mapping for design purposes.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the team on subsurface utility engineering methods and best practices.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and utility owners regarding project-specific details and issues.
  • Oversee quality assurance and control processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of utility data.
  • Develop and implement project management plans, including work breakdown structures and project schedules.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction documents, drawings, and specifications related to subsurface utilities.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal writing and client presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field or related experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Extensive experience in subsurface utility engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in utility mapping software and technologies.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Capable of performing fieldwork, including walking on uneven terrain and lifting equipment as required.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the overall goals of the engineering firm.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in subsurface utility engineering.

This position is expected to pay between $85,000 - $140,000 per year depending on applicable experience and location.
