Louisville City Schools Job Description Position: Substitute Nurse Supervisor: Building Principal/Designee FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Location: Elementary School Buildings, and Middle School and High School Job Objective: To provide health services as needed and assigned under the direction of the licensed school nurse and the supervision of the building administrator. To promote health and safety for students and staff and to provide health interventions as instructed and directed by the licensed school nurse. Job Requirements Valid LPN/RN License issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Experience working with children CPR and First Aid Training Hold or be able to obtain an Ohio Educational Aide Permit and be ESEA qualified by the Ohio Department of Education or hold similar license/s through nursing qualifications. Basic knowledge of prescription and nonprescription medication Ability to problem solve and maintain a professional and positive attitude at all times Maintain the strictest of confidence in working with student and family health information Support the educational mission of the school district and promote good public relations with attitude, conversation and performance Follow and adhere to all Louisville City School District Board of Education policies and procedures Equipment Utilized: First Aid equipment AED Diagnostic, screening and assessment equipment Communications Equipment- Computer/Telephone/Scanner/Copier/Fax Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with toileting needs Administer first aide to ill or injured children Report suspected child abuse or serious illness/injuries according to established procedures Assist with communicable disease control including classroom inspections for head lice Follow Board Policy to administer first aid and medications to students Assist with school-wide health and dental screenings including scheduling, record keeping, and obtaining needed materials and supplies. Record health information in individual student health records Maintain and update electronic student immunization records Assist with development and maintenance of confidential student rosters of significant health conditions, student immunization exemptions, individualized student health plans, and students receiving medication Administer specialized physical health care services such as catheterization, tube feeding, diabetes management, inhalation therapy, colostomy care, etc. as training and skill permit Adhere to requirements for confidentiality regarding students' records; discreetly handle sensitive information pertaining to staff, parents, and students Perform clerical duties such as filing, copying, typing, and maintaining simple records Operate a computer to input, retrieve, and file data and text Assist in hearing, vision, scoliosis, and BMI screening Assist in dispensing medication as needed Assist in sending out referral letters to parents on the screening results done in the schools Additional Working Conditions: Occasional interaction among unruly children Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue Occasional requirement of a "2 person" lift and carry children up to approximately 80 pounds Occasional requirement to lift and carry (i.e. children) up to approximately 50 pounds
