Requirements / Qualifications PLEASE NOTE: Substitutes work on an on-call basis as needed. Hours may vary based on location and position. This position does not include benefits, as it is a substitute position. NO college credit units required. Substitute approval is contingent on candidates passing a basic skills exam. The exam is solely to establish a substitute pool and will not be used to meet minimum requirements for job descriptions during Open & Promotional recruitment. Job Summary Job Summary The Paraeducator/Special Education II may be assigned to a special education classroom or to a general education classroom. Assistance is generally provided to a small group of students; however, the Paraeducator/Special Education II may also be assigned to one-on-one assistance as required to meet the needs of individual students. The type of physical assistance provided depends upon the disabilities of the students to whom the Paraeducator/Special Education II is assigned, and may include assistance with one or more of the following: ambulation, transfers, personal care (toileting, diapering, dressing, grooming, feeding), accessing and storing materials and supplies, and using therapeutic equipment. This position generally supports students who may be eligible for special education or receive services in areas such as Medically Fragile, Developmentally Disabled, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Emotionally Disturbed, Intellectually Disabled, Autism, Visually Impaired and Orthopedically Handicapped.
