Overview The Fitness Center Assistant will primarily service the Fitness Center desk and facility, and secondarily provide assistance to the Student Engagement office as needed. They will provide customer service to the guests of the Fitness Center and assist with the tidiness of the workout rooms. This includes, but not limited to, confirming memberships for access, ensuring guests' waivers are completed, providing phone coverage for the Fitness Center, cleaning and organizing equipment, and doing periodic walk-throughs of the workout rooms. The Fitness Center Assistant may also assist the Student Engagement office staff with tasks and may assist with the Campus Center Information Desk as needed. They must be a team player, willing to cover or trade shifts, and be flexible to work shifts days, evenings, and/or weekends as schedule permits. Schedules available: Summer: Monday through Friday, 25-30 hours per week. Academic Year: Sunday through Saturday, with a maximum of 18 hours per week. Qualifications EDUCATION Must be a Penn College student. Required Must maintain 2.0 grade point average. Required EXPERIENCE Less than 1-year Previous customer service experience. Preferred ABILITIES AND SKILLS Abilities: Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instruction. Ability to work independently and on own initiative. Ability with or aptitude to learn computer functions. Ability to work in an active environment. Ability to complete various tasks asked of them by the administrative staff. Ability to maintain organization and learn quickly. Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and needs. Required Skills: Good communication skills, both oral and written. Organized and responsible. Positive attitude. Certified in CPR and First Aid or willing and able to acquire. Required Responsibilities Maintain professionalism and provide a high level of customer service. Answer Fitness Center questions about membership, hours, pricing, guest passe, and the various rooms and equipment that the Fitness Center has to offer. Be knowledgeable of Fitness Center rules. Follow check-in procedures, i.e. scan IDs, have guests sign waivers, and distribute equipment upon requests. Do laundry for the Fitness Center and Office of Student Engagement, as needed. Answer the Fitness Center desk phone and transfer calls as needed. Maintain organization of the Fitness Center desk area. Make periodic checks of locker rooms and saunas. Demonstrate Fitness Center equipment to members and potential members as necessary. Distribute and promote information pertaining to the Fitness Center. Direct tours of the Fitness Center facility, as requested. Assist with programs or fitness challenges in the Fitness Center. Maintain a positive relationship with staff and co-workers. Maintain high standards and achieve high expectations. Attend staff meetings and student development trainings as requested. Be knowledgeable of the College's emergency procedures and act accordingly. Be aware of surroundings and happenings within the Fitness Center and Campus Center, and report concerns or unusual activities to the supervisor, Student Engagement Office staff, or College Police as appropriate. Be supportive of the College and its programs, in action as well as theory. Encourage students to participate in Student Engagement, Campus Recreation, and College student activities. Assist the Student Engagement Office and CC Information Desk with various tasks including coverage of the CC Information Desk. Communicate with the supervisor on an ongoing basis.
