Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Under general direction of the Student Support Services/Union Director, oversees Student Government Accounting operations including: GL, A/P, A/R, Payroll, month/year-end closing, account analysis and reconciliation. Responsible for the review and analysis of financial statement, income, and expense variances. Analyzes and reconciles G/L and balance sheet accounts. Responsible for the financial year-end close for both governments and the production of all related documents, including the audit papers and reconciliations. Interfaces with the External Auditors. Oversees the timely and accurate recording of all income sources and disbursement of contractual obligations. Responsible for developing the budget assumptions, calendar, and budget items for both governments. Develops and administers accounting training for the student governments and staff. Performs regular review of accounting systems/procedures; recommends and implements improvements/enhancements. Performs routine and special reporting of accounting activities. Acts as representative to the USA Programming Committee, Budget Review Committee and Finance Committee. Ensures timeliness, accuracy and appropriate supporting documentation for all activities. Ensures compliance with applicable laws/regulations and organization policies and procedures. Hires, trains, evaluates and counsels staff in all activities. Prepares SGA department budgets. Performs special assignments.

Qualifications:

Requires 7+ years related accounting management experience. Experience must demonstrate: extensive knowledge of automated accounting systems/procedures; extensive knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; effective personnel management, organization and development practices; effective interface with diverse individuals/groups; effective handling of a variety of priorities and timelines; attention to detail and accuracy in performing work; PC word processing/spreadsheet proficiency. BA/BS required, MBA/CPA preferred.

Supervises:

Directly and indirectly supervises professional and part-time/student staff.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping and reaching; occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
