JOB TITLE: Structural Foreman

REPORTS TO: General Manager, Structural

Summary of position: A Structural Foreman is an individual who supervises the duties performed by various individuals involved in tasks related to welding. A Structural Foreman must be personally trained in welding processes such as but not limited to SMAW and GMAW-Flux Core for all positions. The Structural Foreman must ensure all welding tasks are done by qualified individuals and ensure they have proper tooling and safe environments to work in.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in welding and cutting of products and structures
  • Analyzes work orders and blueprints to determine need for supplies and sequence of operations required
  • Requisitions supplies, such as weld rods, weld wire, gases, and fixtures
  • Inspects work to maintain specified standards and quality
  • Trains workers in operation of equipment
  • May set up machines or make trial welds
  • May supervise fitting and assembly of structural frames
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management
  • Has the responsibility to ensure the equipment is being protected and maintained properly
  • Responsible to prepare records and reports about the subordinates and the tasks being carried out at the site
  • It is the job responsibility of a Structural Foreman to train those who are new in this field or on the current project
  • A Structural Foreman is also responsible for working within the prescribed budgets and maintaining job cost control
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Knowledge of welding machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning work, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, and training
  • Six months to one year related supervisory experience and/or training
  • Ability to follow instructions given both verbally and in written form
  • Familiarity with the metric system
  • Ability to stand continuously for long periods of time
  • Willing to work 40+ hours a week
  • Pass substance abuse testing
Physical Requirements: Regularly required to walk; frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, or crawl at various heights and in confined spaces; occasionally required to sit; required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel, grip, or handle; regularly required to safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; required use of vision to see up close, distance, and peripherally, as well as depth perception and ability to adjust focus in low light conditions. May be required to wear a respirator to safely perform assigned tasks.

Mental Requirements: Must be able to carry out simple to complex instructions in a safe and efficient manner.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directs the work of Welders and Shipfitters.
