Position: Maintenance Field Worker - Stormwater Roads & Drainage

Purpose of the Position/Job Summary:

The Stormwater team is responsible for the City's stormwater structures, conveyances, and pipes. Members of this team will be responsible for executing routine stormwater maintenance work orders. Additionally, the Stormwater Field employee will maintain the team's equipment and operating headquarters, adhere to safety protocols and company policies, and provide daily updates to Foreman. Finally, the Stormwater team will participate in annual training sessions, as outlined below. The Stormwater Field Employee will work 40 hours per week, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.

Essential Functions:

The individual with this position in our company will be expected, on a regular basis, to:
  • Pipe Maintenance (Remove debris, minor repairs, install new pipe)
  • Replace broken catch basins
  • Reattach pipes to structures
  • Repair masonry structures
  • Remove and replace damaged structures
  • Remove and replace damaged flumes and curbs
  • Ditch cleaning and repair
  • Placing rip-rap
  • Cleaning detention ponds
  • Operating a single-axle dump truck
  • Operating heavy equipment (skid steer and mini excavator)
  • Crew training requirements:
    1. Trench and Excavation Training: All members in first 60 days
    2. Stormwater Pollution Prevention Training: All members receive 8 hours annually
    3. Green Infrastructure: One member receives 16 hours annually
  • Wearing proper PPE
  • Reporting to yard by 7.30 am
  • Checking equipment mechanics and fluids prior to use
  • Reporting and communicating job-related functions to Manager

Weekly Responsibilities (Including but Not Limited To):
  • Participating in Five Safety Meetings per Week
  • Communicating Schedule needs and conflicts with Foreman

As Directed:
  • Emergency Response

Job Specification (Knowledge, skills, and abilities typically required for competent performance in the job):
  • Experience in performing general labor and construction.
  • Commitment to doing quality work while putting safety first.
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation
  • Knowledge - knows about landscaping,. or desires to learn more.
  • Operations - control operations of equipment
  • Customer and Personal Service - meet quality standards, provide customer service.
  • Stamina - The ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath.
  • Static Strength - The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry objects.
  • Trunk Strength - The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This job has no supervisory responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • One (1) year of experience as a laborer in commercial construction projects preferred.
  • Identify common construction materials, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Understand construction terminology.
  • Proven commitment to Safety
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from the job site.
  • Ability to work overtime as/if needed.
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
  • Must be self-motivated and can work well with others.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting/pushing/pulling of material weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to squat, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
  • Minimum age 18+
  • Proof of Identity and Employment Authorization
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language a plus.
  • Familiarity with how to read blueprints a plus.

Experience: 1-3 years field experience preferred, but not required

Licenses/Certifications: Blue Card, must have or be willing to obtain.

Condition of Employment:

Candidates may be asked to pass a drug test, and/or background check, depending on location and approval of driving privileges.
