POSITION SUMMARY Maintains departmental supplies, working closely with materials management and other surgical service staff. Provides equipment/instrument cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, and/or sterilization for the hospital and clinics. Assists with departmental cleaning and organization. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Sterile processing experience is preferred. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS (preferred) Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT), or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Follow established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing, and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment. Other duties may be assigned. Adhere to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment. Follow safety procedures and manufacturer instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies, and equipment. Must have basic knowledge of the following: Surgical instrumentation Methods of decontamination including endoscopic scope reprocessing and HLD Sterilization processes including being able to monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas Will be required to: Maintain sterile processing, testing and maintenance logs/records Keep instrument tray reference books up to date Assist with operating room turnover by performing the following; collect soiled instruments, change suctions, assist in cleaning room Maintain all department supplies working with materials management and other surgical service staff. Monitor inventory and notify appropriate individuals of discrepancies Monitor assigned areas for outdates and environmental cleaning of shelves and storage systems throughout the department Maintain linen supplies and fill warmers Promote customer service by demonstrating polite, cooperative and respectful behavior to both internal and external customers Assume responsibility for completing mandatory educational requirements. Assist with improving the quality of sterile processing services by staying up-to-date of changing standards and recommended practices Safeguard security and confidentiality of data/information according to HIPAA guidelines Carry out duties safely and use safety devices provided to protect self and others Report safety hazards as appropriate Why Choose Riverwood Healthcare Center? Provides equipment/instrument cleaning, decontamination, disinfection, and/or sterilization for the hospital and clinics. Assists with departmental cleaning and organization. This position provides care for or assistance to patients of all ages, including: newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and older adults. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Assist with operating room turnover by performing the following; collect soiled instruments, change suctions, assist in cleaning room. Must have basic knowledge of surgical instrumentation, methods of decontamination and sterile processing methods for all instrumentation/equipment. Must have basic knowledge of the sterilization processes and the quality assurance methods for each. Maintain sterile processing logs/records. Keep instrument tray reference books up to date. Maintain all department supplies working with materials management and other surgical service staff. Monitor inventory and notify appropriate individuals of discrepancies. Periodically cleans shelves and storage systems throughout the department. Monitors and logs refrigerator temperatures. Maintain linen supplies and fill warmers. Promote customer service by demonstrating polite, cooperative and respectful behavior to both internal and external customers. Assume responsibility for completing mandatory educational requirements. Safeguard security and confidentiality of data/information according to HIPAA guidelines. Carry out duties in a safe manner and use safety devices provided to protect self and others. Report safety hazards as appropriate. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Certification in Sterile Processing or equivalent experience preferred.
