Position Summary Job Summary The Counselor provides clinical, emergency, consultation and outreach services to the Susquehanna University community. This 8-32 hours a week position to fill in for a vacancy during the Fall 2023 semester. Specific Responsibilities Provide individual and group clinical services to students, primarily but not exclusively brief individual therapy, to address personal, interpersonal and developmental concerns. Consult with psychiatrist, medical providers, and other mental health professionals as appropriate. Participate in emergency services, and crisis, including crisis intervention, day-time emergencies and, on rare occasions, evening and weekend on-call. Consult with students, parents, faculty and staff regarding mental health and developmental needs of students as needed and appropriate. Maintain relevant paperwork and documentation. Contributes to the overall success of the Counseling and Psychological Services and the University by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of English language including meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar. Skilled at written and verbal communication, including formal presentation to groups. Ability to set priorities and advocate team concepts. Position requires complete trustworthiness and the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues. Excellent customer service with students, parents, medical/psychiatric professionals is expected. Required Qualifications Education A master's degree in psychology, counseling, or social work is required. Appropriate licensure or license-eligible in Pennsylvania is required. For social workers: LSW is required, for counselors: LPC is required, for psychologists: license eligibility is required. Experience Demonstrated clinical experience and expertise working with young adult population, in at least one of the following: anxiety and mood disorders, demonstrated work and expertise with LGBTQ+ identified individuals, and/or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Physical Demand Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to talk and hear instructions. Position requires occasional manual dexterity and the ability to use fingers, hands, and arms to feel, handle, and reach. Working conditions are remote. Preferred Qualifications Experience Experience working within a college or university counseling center and experience working in a virtual environment including tele mental health preferred.
