Position Summary:

The Staff Tax Accountant for income tax reports to the Income Tax Manager. The individual will work with the Income Tax Manger in preparing and filing the company's income, franchise, and other miscellaneous tax workpapers and returns in various jurisdictions within the United States and Canada. The individual may also work with our outside tax consultants in any tax filings and perform certain monthly account reconciliations.

The individual will work in the Rutland, Vermont office.

Key Responsibilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and tax laws and regulations in relevant state, local and federal jurisdictions
Assists the Income Tax Manger in performing research on relevant tax questions and issues as they arise
Assists in compliance and reporting obligations for all taxes overseen by the Tax Department including federal, state and local corporate income tax, property taxes, franchise taxes and abandoned and unclaimed property compliance and reporting
Communicates with departments across the company to obtain necessary documentation for tax purposes
Analyzes and reconciles tax accruals
Responds to communication from regulatory agencies
Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills, an ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines
Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of tax matters and the Company, and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values
Assists with other miscellaneous returns and special tax projects as assigned
Education, Experience & Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, have an Associate's Degree in Accounting or a Finance/Business related degree and 0 to 2 years of experience in an accounting or tax role. The incumbent must have a demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment.

A solid understanding of general accounting rules, detail-oriented and strong organizing skills, strong follow through skills, and an ability to multi-task and meet consistent deadlines are required. Excellent listening and communication skills, an ability to adapt to change and be adept at identifying issues and formulating solutions are necessary. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and a customer service approach to working with internal departments and outside customers are expected.

Although not required, a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or other Finance/Business related degree is preferred.
