The Staff Accountant is responsible for the timely, accurate completion of all financial functions and conformity to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role will maintain the integrity of all the financial tools used within the organization and serve as support for staff and donor inquiries. The ideal candidate for this position has a team-player attitude, can work independently and is eager to learn and grow their skills.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Record-Keeping:
    1. Process incoming contributions from various sources: Checks & Cash from the Sunday Giving and daily mail, online giving through Touchpoint Church Management software, stock gifts, direct transfers via ACH/EFT etc.
    2. Managing the Church's Accounts Receivable in Sage Intacct Accounting Software, including process and record cash receipts, Day School payments, Summer Camp registrations, issuing invoices etc.
    3. Review expenses entered through Nexonia Expense Management tool.
    4. Reconcile the corporate credit cards on a monthly basis.
    5. Manage and maintain the issuance and cancellation of corporate credit cards.
    6. Process monthly payments to the church's benefit providers.
    7. Record monthly recurring journal entries as needed to ensure proper and accurate financial reporting.
    8. Record monthly cash transactions to agree with the bank statement.
    9. Perform month-end closing journal entries.
    10. Reconcile various general ledger and balance sheet accounts as assigned.

  • Training & Communication:
    1. Train new and existing staff on the financial tools such as Martus Budgeting & Nexonia
    2. Assist ministry areas with questions in Martus during the annual budget preparation cycle.
    3. Responds to inquiries from staff with regards to registration payments in Touchpoint.
    4. Assist staff with credit card and expense management in Nexonia.
    5. Respond to member and donor inquiries via email and over the phone in a timely manner.
    6. Acknowledge contributions made through stock donations, and institutional giving such as donor advised funds and IRA's.

  • Reporting:
    1. Prepare and distribute the weekly contributions reports.
    2. Prepare and mail contribution statements to the church donor base at select times during the year.
    3. Review and analyze financial data for the Strategic Leadership Team as needed.
  • Other duties:
    1. Provide backup for Accounts Payable.
    2. Collaborate to ensure a clean and timely year end audit and other fiscal year end activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Accounting.
  • 4-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Non-profit or church experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct Accounting software, Touchpoint, Nexonia or Martus, a plus.
  • Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to analyze and pay close attention to detail.
  • Sound written and oral communication skills with the ability to engage in a professional, hospitable and courteous manner.
  • Self-starter and the ability to perform tasks independently and assume ownership in the role.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic with team attitude.
