Main Objective:

Perform general accounting duties, in conjunction with sales tax return preparation and reconciliation, 1099 & 1042


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in Reconciling sales and use tax data between Vertex tax system and primary SAP/ERP system. Make necessary adjustments, based on reconciliation
  • Utilize Vertex Sales and Use Tax software in preparing and filing multi-state and jurisdictional sales and use tax returns based on state/jurisdiction mandated filing frequency
  • Generating periodic reporting of customer exemption certificate expiration status and working with master data teams to update certificates in Vertex
  • Assist in Sales/Use and Consumer's Use Tax Audit Preparation
  • Assist in reconciling, researching and preparing tangible personal property tax reports
  • Provide vendor 1099 & 1042-S setup guidance to ensure proper reporting and backup withholding taxes are calculated as required
  • Research and document tax regulations on a country or state basis, to determine backup withholding requirements
  • Assist Accounts Receivable in customer setup setup requirements for capturing sales tax jurisdiction
  • Assist in special accounting projects, to improve processes, or to provide information/reports
  • Monitor, respond or forward group emails and phone calls, as needed
  • Assist in filing and tracking Annual Reports & Payments
  • Utilize SAP & 1099/1042-S Pro to reconcile and prepare 1099 Misc and 1042-S Forms and submit reports to the IRS
  • Assist in TPPT reconciliation and reporting

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Prior sales tax, 1099, W-8, 1042-S and TPPT experience preferred

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:

  • Strong Accounting Knowledge
  • Good Organizational Skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with a team
  • Ability to effectively coordinate activities with other departments
  • Ability to multi-task

Machine, Tools, and/or Software Skills:

PC, Microsoft Office Suite, online/intranet based corporate banking/treasury management software, enterprise-based ERP systems with integrated sales/use tax compliance software, and fixed asset modules, office equipment. Preferred prior experience in SAP, Vertex O Series, Vertex Returns, 1099 PRO, 1042-S PRO, Excel, Word


Reasoning Ability:

Has the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Has the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions, in mathematical or diagram form, and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


Mathematical Skills

Has the ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles to the degree required to perform the job based upon job requirements.


Language and Communication Skills:

Has the ability to comprehend and apply language skills to the degree required to perform the job based upon the job requirements listed above. Has the ability to verbally communicate ideas and issues effectively to other team members and management. Has the ability to write and record data and information as required by procedures.
