Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Mechanical Engineering Manager, conceptualizes, designs, and develops automated semiconductor test equipment components using SolidWorks. Design and build automated machining and electromechanical systems. Work to improve existing designs and processes or expand capabilities. This role will focus on specific modules and in-chamber mechanisms.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

1. Conceptualize, design, and develop new automated semiconductor test equipment aligned with the Product Development Plan process.

2. Design and build automated machining and electromechanical systems.

3. Work to improve existing designs and processes or expand capabilities.

4. Collaborate with cross-functional Engineering teams.

5. Interact with Project Managers to define requirements.

6. Perform detailed cost analyses on new products and changes to existing products.

7. Provide project management of existing products, including timelines, schedules, design review, and writing of functional specs.

8. Analyze and find root causes using tools such as FEA, MTBF, and FMEA.

9. Write specifications, test plans, and reports, and prepare timelines and cost estimations.

10. Prepare assembly drawings, bill of materials, and alignment procedures.

11. May research, select, and test vendor products.

12. May research and generate solutions for ECPs and assist in all functions required to generate and process ECNs.

13. Provide support to the engineering lab, manufacturing floor, and machine shop as required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Provides work leadership or technical guidance to lower-level employees.

Qualifications:

Education/Training: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university. M.S. degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of ten years experience with an engineering Bachelor's degree, or six to seven years with an engineering Master's degree. Experience with machine design or automation for the semiconductor industry a plus - experience with automated test equipment such as pick-in-place a big plus. Requires experience developing equipment that runs in a 24/7 environment. Experience with complex electro-mechanical systems or machine design is highly desirable, along with automation, robotic equipment, computer/machine vision, and thermal engineering.

Skills/Technical Requirements:

Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and analytical methods required.

Ability to manage fast-paced direct product development projects. Ability to exhibit innovation and think "out of the box". Exceptional design skills with a big-picture view of product development. Also requires an understanding of design from a systems engineering perspective.

Ability to meet objectives within cost targets.

Experience with designing electro-mechanical parts, subassemblies, gears, racks, mechanisms, and movements required.

Familiarity with automation, robotics, aluminum machining, hardened gears, thermal concerns, wear-on materials, and aging.

Well-versed in failure element analysis (FEA), mean time between failure (MTBF), and failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA).

Proficiency with SolidWorks/Cosmos (latest release).

Practical experience with engineering documentation (i.e. detail drawings, fabrication specifications, Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Orders, etc.)

Requires familiarity with GD&T.

Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to provide direction and guidance to designers and drafters.

Ability to work independently on projects and interface effectively with other teams members.
