Job Description

  • Accountable and responsible for concept creation, engineering analysis, prototyping, CAD design, etc. for all components/assemblies across multiple products/categories including entry, storm doors, padlocks, safety, and safes.
  • Hire, develop, and manage a team of technical leaders and product engineers in a collaborative engineering organization. Flex team to meet department plans or priorities, including internal and external resources.
  • Lead coordination and assignment of technical project work, design reviews, DRBFM/DFM/DFA, attribute development for platforming of products.
  • Create and coach others to create detailed plans to accomplish goals and manage the integration of technical activities.
  • Collaborate with other product development teams globally to specify functional requirements, designs, simulations, tests, and integrate components, sub-systems and finished goods into the product portfolio.
  • Serve as a key member of and thought leader to the GPD Engineering Leadership Team. Participate in the development and implementation of the GPD VIA Strategy to enable and drive growth, maximize efficiency, and value, and execute with excellence. Develop and execute strategic objectives.
  • Work openly, cooperatively, and collaboratively with Project Management, Category Management, Operations, Platforms, and DtV teams to continually improve product efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, and profitability.
  • Evaluate design effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety. Coach others to create product and process evaluation methods (engineering analysis, testing, etc.) to meet product specifications.
  • Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing and assembly partners to optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly, ensuring consistency of supply chain performance.
  • Collaborate with Category Management and Innovation teams to understand and drive Consumer Empathy into products across the portfolio of brands. Understand consumer s needs/wants/desires and the consumer journey; apply these insights into impactful product innovations, attributes, and features.
  • Serve as a key technical and process leader, collaborating with the GPD Process team for execution and continuous improvement of product development processes and systems.
  • Lead or support the supplier technical interface for supplier-led new product development programs including creation of supplier design expectations, design validation methodologies, documentation control, etc.
  • Drive creativity, development, and implementation of new product consumer-facing innovations through collaboration with Innovation team leaders.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in engineering is required; an MBA (or other graduate degree) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in the areas of Product Development Engineering or related technical area in a quality driven, durable goods environment plus experience in product testing, preferably with consumer products
  • Strong management, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and commitment to world class engineering, manufacturing, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated success in driving improvement and leading change throughout an organization.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and Dassault PLM environments preferred.
