We are looking for a scientist with a strong track-record in human statistical genetics or genetic epidemiology to join the Genomics and Health Data Mining team within Therapeutic Area Genetics at the Regeneron Genetics Center.

The role will involve cutting-edge research and development in large scale genetics, omics, and health outcomes. To enable biological understanding of disease and new target nomination, analyses will include exome sequencing, GWAS and analyses of transcriptomics, proteomics and phenomics datasets. In this role, you will connect genetic, expression, protein and other biomarker variation to human diseases and health outcomes, and then mine vast arrays of results to translate genetic associations into new therapeutic opportunities for both common and rare diseases. You will work in close collaboration with various colleagues at the RGC and Regeneron more broadly, including Analytical Genetics and Clinical Informatics colleagues. This position will grant you the opportunity to develop deep expertise into large-scale data-driven approaches for drug discovery and development, and to play a leading role in the discovery and translation of tomorrows transformative therapies.

In this role, a typical day might include the following:

  • Use RGC pipelines to perform GWAS and exome-wide association analyses on thousands of phenotypes using multiple cohorts totaling >1 million participants.
  • Perform multi-trait, fine-mapping and conditional analyses at large scale to further refine to identify effector genes at associated loci.
  • Integrate a variety of omics and bioinformatics data to prioritize targets for further investigation.
  • Integrate association results from common variants together with rare variants to identify novel gene associations with human diseases and traits.
  • Create and use polygenic risk scores.
  • Enhance equity of benefit from genetic results by appropriate analysis of multi-ancestry cohorts and population-specific or population-enhanced variants.
  • Critically review and provide feedback on statistical methods and analysis plans, results and summaries to ensure they are accurate and reliable. Identify potential problems and propose remedies or refinements.
  • Lead projects with multi-disciplinary teams focusing on human genetic support for specific diseases or targets of interest.
  • Collaborate with a variety of teams within the RGC and Regeneron to build upon existing knowledge and approaches.

This job might be for you if you:

  • Have a strong work ethic and are proactive in providing solutions to foster scientific collaborations and drive projects forward within Regeneron.
  • Have ability to work in a highly interactive environment with a diverse team of colleagues.
  • Have outstanding communication skills to summarize and present new statistical methods and concepts and the results of human genetic studies to a variety of technical audiences, ranging from experts in statistical genetics and computation to experts in biology, drug design and medicine.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to help colleagues develop their full potential and build new skills and abilities. The outstanding candidate will be able help teams of skilled individuals to consistently achieve high levels of motivation, enthusiasm and performance.
  • Are a motivated teammate with a desire to pursue genetic discovery in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • You thrive in a highly interactive environment with a diverse team of colleagues and a commitment to promoting a collegial, productive and highly inclusive working culture.
  • You are committed to high-quality science, and the highest research standards and integrity.

To be considered for this role, you must have a PhD or MD with a strong background in and knowledge of human genetics, genetic epidemiology or statistical genetics, as well as at least 10 years of post-PhD experience. A strong track record in quantitative genetics and translational human genetics is required, as evidenced by a strong publication record. Candidates will demonstrate experience using a range of statistical genetics tools, ideally including association analysis, fine mapping, polygenic scores, quantitative traits, rare variant burden tests, and familiarity with command-line interface, programming languages and statistical software for custom analyses and data visualization. Some experience supervising students and post-doctoral fellows is desired.
