Sr. EHS Specialist - Houston, TX - Monday - Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM The Sr EHS Specialist develops and administers company-approved employee health programs as assigned by the Manager, EHS, follows-up on employee workplace injuries/exposures at the direction of management, and maintains accurate records of all associated matters. The incumbent participates in new employee orientation programs. The incumbent actively supports and complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
• Develops, implements, and updates procedures for the prevention of chemical, physical and biohazard incidents; demonstrates proper safety precautions to supervisors and employees as needed or requested. Performs standard EHS Specialist duties. Reviews/investigates, in conjunction with the EHS Manager/Specialist, all employee exposures and injuries; develops action plans for the purpose of reducing incident rates. Renders post-exposure treatment as outlined in the Standard Operating Policy. Assists the Manager, EHS in conducting training as requested. Administers and follows up any laboratory-initiated medical prevention programs; i.e., vaccine programs. Submits written management reports to the Manager, EHS detailing activities, as requested. Serves as a source of accurate information regarding biohazard exposures and general safety. Serves as a standing member of Quest Diagnostics Safety Committee. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by competent authority. Adapts and implements corporate safety, health and environmental policies. Develop, administer, or coordinate plans and programs designed to maintain high level of safety awareness among managers and employees. Performs or coordinates on-site safety inspections at the main laboratory campus. Analyzes accident/incident trends and develops training or other programs to reduce incidents Maintain close coordination with Operational Leaders Assist in administration of environmental, health and safety programs in the business unit Responsible for maintenance of required records and supportive documents Responsible for maintenance of EHS training records and related documents Maintain regulatory compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local regulations Coordinate safety meetings and training sessions Administer hazardous waste characterization/disposal program Responsible for pollution prevention and waste minimization program Business Continuity Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for overall management and oversight of the Region's Business Continuity Plan (BCP) in Assurance and Everbridge and other systems required under the BCP. In collaboration with Functional Leadership ensure plans are kept current and the BCP schedule/deadlines are adhered to. Plan, prepare, communicate and lead annual exercise (define scenario, attendees, agenda) in conjunction with the site BU BC Liaison and Functional Leadership as required by the BCP Plan. QUALIFICATIONS Required Work Experience: 4+ years of experience in an environmental health & safety related field Preferred Work Experience: Previous general supervision, training experience and personal computer skills are preferred. Experience in emergency response First aid and CPR certification Experience in workers compensation case management Experience in managing hazardous chemical and regulated medical waste programs Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Knowledge: Broad knowledge of all governmental regulations applicable to the effective performance of the duties and responsibilities outlined for this position. Skills: Strong interpersonal skills necessary to educate and communicate with all levels of employees. Spanish bilingual skills preferred. Aptitude for organizing, planning and implementing employee programs as described. Ability to make decisions under emergency situations. Ability to coordinate work with other departments for smooth and efficient operations. Ability to maintain accurate logs and records. Ability to deal with sensitive information in a strictly confidential manner. EDUCATION Associates Degree(Required) Bachelors Occupational Safety and Health and/or Environmental Science or Related Field.
