Position Summary:

Vallen's Sr. Communications Specialist (SCR) is a highly visible, important contributor responsible for supporting the business objectives, core values and culture of the company through implementing the organizations branding, internal communication and external marketing strategies.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides input into the organization's communication, marketing, and social media strategies and works in concert with brand marketing and sales enablement to ensure alignment to core brand messaging and visual identity standards.
  • Uses communications theory and standards to develop, publish, and distribute key message content and/or partner with subject matter experts within the organization to edit functional content. Ensures content is accurate, clear, credible, and relevant. Content may take the form of policies, handbooks, newsletters, executive/management announcements, townhalls, videos, external communications, presentations, speeches, and/or social media, etc. Materials may be distributed in traditional print form, electronically or through online technologies.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders (Leadership, HR, Sales, marketing, etc) to develop and maintain annual communications calendar representing a range of topics as needed by stakeholders.
  • May lead and/or participate in various external communication and marketing activities in support of positive public relation and social media relation programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its visibility, key initiatives, and campaigns in market.
  • Develops and monitors metrics to measure communication plan reach/impact and identify component successes and enhancement opportunities.
  • Manages the company's public relations strategy and acts as the corporate liaison with key industry media.
  • May lead and/or participate in the executive communication planning and execution for Vallen leadership in the US and Canada
  • May lead and/or participate in internal communication planning and execution for Vallen US & Canada, including sensitive topics for a limited audience.
  • May lead and/or participate in supporting supplier partner marketing efforts including but not limited to newsletters, campaigns, and landing pages.
  • Support communication initiatives and best practices across Vallen NA (US, CAN, & MX) and collaborate with delegates in each role.
  • Support Vallen Intranet content and related pages, as needed, for Marketing or other stakeholders.
  • Support communication initiatives for Vallen Cares, Employee Support Groups, and Vallen Sustainability (ESG) guide and annual report.
  • Manage 2-3 associates on communications team and collaborate closely with marketing team.
  • Ensure all communications meet a high standard for writing and grammar.
  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of communications both internal and external leveraging knowledge of brand, go-to-market strategy, and corporate culture.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, Political Science, or liberal arts) and at least 5 years applicable of experience. Applicable experience should include:

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with adaptability across multiple writing styles and medium platforms.
  • Professional presence to interact with all levels within the organization. Executive communication support preferred with demonstration of successful negotiation, influencing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to successfully handle multiple ongoing projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and change management skills.
