Responsibilities

The Senior Commercial Services Counsel will assist in transactional closings of transactions involving commercial properties or multi-unit residential sites located in a specific geographic region. Acts as substitute in-house legal counsel in other regions where the company underwrites or transacts business. Provides advisory guidance to associates and customers. Monitors and manages high liability approvals. Communicates with and assists customers regarding company's products and services. Assists associates with the legal aspects of title and closing issues. Maintains confidentiality. Refers to company's other Senior Underwriting Counsel for consultation.

  • Underwrites commercial and residential title closings.
  • Assists title and escrow officers on extraordinary issues, questions and closing problems.
  • Reviews and approves high liability orders within maximum approved limits; reviews and processes high liability orders with Company's other underwriters which exceed maximum approved limits.
  • Advises and meets with outside attorneys, realtors or buyer/seller clients regarding escrow and title closing issues
  • Responds to claim problems and advises the title or escrow officers involved.
  • Interacts with the Dept. of Insurance on regulatory matters.
  • Participates as requested by management in marketing efforts, including making presentations to large and small groups.
  • Stays current and distributes to staff information regarding new laws and procedures.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Juris doctorate degree
  • Continuing legal education requirements
  • Member of Bar Association and license to practice law in Florida
  • Extensive underwriting experience and background
  • Extensive commercial transactional experience and background
  • Claims experience
  • Litigation experience
  • Knowledge of Real Estate law in Florida
  • Knowledge of title insurance laws and regulations in Florida
