SQL Database Administrator (DBA) - On-Premises and Azure/Cloud Experience

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced SQL Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in both on-premises and Azure/cloud environments to join our dynamic team.

Responsible for managing and maintaining our SQL Server databases in both traditional on-premises infrastructure and cloud-based platforms.

Ensuring the availability, performance, security, and scalability of our database systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support and optimize our applications.

Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server databases in both on-premises and Azure/cloud environments, considering factors such as performance, scalability, security, and high availability.

Perform database installation, configuration, and upgrade activities in both on-premises and cloud environments, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.

Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for SQL Server databases, leveraging both on-premises solutions and cloud services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Backup.

Monitor and optimize database performance in both on-premises and cloud environments, analyzing query execution plans, identifying bottlenecks, and recommending and implementing performance tuning strategies.

Proactively manage database security, including user access management, data encryption, and vulnerability assessments, following best practices for both on-premises and cloud environments.

Collaborate with development teams to assist in the design and optimization of database schema, indexes, and queries to ensure efficient data retrieval and storage.

Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, such as connectivity problems, performance degradation, and data integrity concerns, ensuring minimal downtime and impact on business operations.

Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in SQL Server, on-premises infrastructure, and cloud platforms (particularly Azure), and propose and implement improvements to enhance database performance, reliability, and security.

Create and maintain database documentation, including data models, database schemas, and configuration details, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, and network engineers, to support application deployments, upgrades, and integrations .

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Proven experience as a SQL Database Administrator (DBA), with hands-on experience in managing SQL Server databases in both on-premises and Azure/cloud environments.

In-depth knowledge of SQL Server database administration, including database design, installation, configuration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and security.

Strong understanding of on-premises infrastructure, as well as experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Azure.

Familiarity with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Backup, and other Azure services relevant to database administration.

Also, experience with TSQL, ETL, PowerShell; familiarity with VMWare to do some basic functionality for call coverage;

Experience with hybrid environments, managing SQL Server databases that span on-premises and cloud infrastructure.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues in diverse environments.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, are a plus.

Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with evolving technologies and industry trends related to on-premises and cloud-based database administration.
