Job Title: Spring Coiler Set-Up/Operator Machinist I


1st Shift. $10,000 Sign-on Bonus


Job Summary: The Spring Coiler Set-Up/Operator Machinist I is tasked with setting up and operating both mechanical and CNC coiling and wire forming machines. These machines produce a variety of spring parts including compression, extension, wire form, and torsion springs from steel wire according to blueprints and setup charts. This role offers a consistent first shift schedule, running from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, allowing for a well-balanced work-life routine. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered to the successful candidate.


Essential Job Functions:



  • Operate industrial coiling machines to manufacture wound commercial wire coils from tubes of various diameters and wall thicknesses.

  • Perform setup, operation, changeover, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance for machinery.

  • Conduct safety audits of equipment at the beginning of each shift, document results, and report to the supervisor.

  • Interpret blueprints to determine machine setup procedures, necessary attachments, and appropriate stock or refer to setup charts for details.

  • Install machine attachments such as taper cams, wire size blocks, coiling points, pitch tools, and cutting tools based on specifications from blueprints or setup charts.

  • Measure wire diameter using precision tools like micrometers and calipers, and thread wire through appropriate machine components.

  • Utilize various hand tools for setup and adjustments.

  • Adjust machine settings to meet product specifications and quality standards.

  • Conduct trial runs, perform stress relief, and measure sample products using gauges, load testers, micrometers, and calipers to ensure conformance to specifications.

  • Make adjustments as necessary to maintain product quality within specified tolerances.

  • May suggest modifications to blueprints to improve production processes.

  • Potentially craft custom tools and attachments for machine operations.


Skills and Abilities:



  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting part specifications or blueprints.

  • Basic literacy and mathematical skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Effective communication skills.


Education and Experience:



  • 3-4 years of experience in coiling, machine operation, and setup.

  • Experience with various machinery operations such as cold winding, hot winding, lathes, and CNC machines is advantageous.


This role is ideal for individuals who have a strong background in industrial machine operation and are adept at mechanical setups and adjustments, ensuring high-quality production of precision metal components.
