In this vital role you will be responsible for facilitating routine meetings for both programs, driving program and performance improvement and ensuring compliance to all Amgen and industry standards. The Manufacturing Specialist will also conduct safety walk throughs and ensure safety related corrective/preventative actions are in place as deemed necessary by management. The Manufacturing Specialist will lead Business Resilience for DSS which includes facilitating compliance improvement for our organization by addressing and mitigating risk as appropriate. Part of the leadership of our Risk program is the requirement to be a Risk Facilitator which entails formal training and qualification. This role will also include Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA) Record management as well as acting backup lead to the current CAPA program lead for DSS. The staff member in this role will manage all aspects of their responsibilities: planning, cost (if applicable), schedule, risk, communications, resources, team dynamics and performance, implementation, monitoring, completion, and follow-up.

This role will be based in our main corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA and will report to a Management in DSS Business Performance within the B23 Drug Substance organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Leader for DSS Environmental, Health and Safety program and Leader for DSS Business Resilience and Risk program
  • Meeting manager for Environmental, Health and Safety program and Risk program meetings which includes driving agenda, program improvements and action items
  • Apply Industrial Engineering/Lean Six Sigma tools and principles to address business process problems and design new processes to achieve results
  • Facilitate problem-solving sessions to lead teams to address issues
  • Assist in implementing and supporting OE tools such as: Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Visual Controls, Root Cause Analysis, Kaizen events, Mistake-proofing, Standard Work / Leader Standard Work and Daily Management Systems
  • Conduct project scoping and chartering, define execution strategy, and guide project completion
  • Own CAPA records supporting DSS.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

Or

Masters degree and 2 years of Project Management or Operations experience

Or

Bachelors degree and 4 years of Project Management or Operations experience

Or

Associates degree and 8 years of Project Management or Operations experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Project Management or Operations experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of biotech manufacturing processes and the functions that support them
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability in providing leadership that motivates cross-functional teams to advance complex projects to completion
  • Demonstrated ability to forge and maintain strong relationships within multiple functional areas
  • Ability to tactfully and effectively negotiate and influence
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas to all levels of staff and management
  • Experience leading teams
  • Proficiency in project management methodology and tools
  • Be a team player, and self-starter who is capable of growth and increased responsibility
  • Understanding of operational excellence, including continuous improvement methodologies
