Apply Job Type Full-time Description Sterile Processing Department Full-time 72 hours bi-weekly Shift Varies - 1st & 2nd Includes every 4th weekend & holiday rotation The SPD Technician performs repeated tasks in preventing the spread of infection by supervising and providing properly cleaned, inspected and processed equipment for facility use. They disassemble, clean, assemble and prepare surgical instrumentation and equipment for sterilization. They work in collaboration with the LPN Shift Supervisor, SPD Technicians and all departments to provide efficient and timely service to our clients. They assist in tracking inventory, reviewing, recording and recovering charges through the facility's computer system. Is involved in recording information for infection control and participates in the performance improvement activities within the departments. They may handle the SPD responsibilities of the morgue. They may be asked to supervise the department on a shift-to-shift basis, consulting the LPN Shift Supervisor or SPD Department Manager as needed. This position includes weekend and holiday rotation. Preference given to individual experienced and competent in robotic, orthopedic and general surgical instrument cleaning & reprocessing procedures, who operates Sterrad sterilizer and biologicals independently. Is able to work closely and communicate well with the department manager, shift supervisor and surgery department. Must have a strong working knowledge of Infection Control and sterile reprocessing practices. Is responsible for the cleaning, inspection, and assembly of surgical instruments, following industry standards and best practices. Processes sterilizer biological indicators and interprets results. Strong working knowledge of inventory practices within Meditech is expected. Can lead the team in absence of shift supervisor. Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience in an acute care hospital or surgery center, Sterile Processing, Central Service, Surgery Department preferred. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred, but willing to train. CST must be a graduate from accredited school with current certification through NBSTSA. CRCST must be certified through HSPA or CBSPD or must successfully complete Sterile Processing Technician course after 1 year of service. Will continue to maintain competency by completing the minimum hours of continuing education courses within each period, corresponding to certification renewal. Position requires standing 90% of the shift. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and push or pull 150 lbs. Specific vision abilities required for this job include intricate instrument inspection and requires exceptional close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
