Duties The Space Planner, in conjunction with the US Government, ensures that critical planning actions are accomplished efficiently, within prescribed timelines, and meet identified mission requirements. Support development and management of the space operational environment in coordination with applicable service components and US Space Command staff. Support planning for the integration of joint and combined space operations into overall military operations in each exercise plan, Concept Plan (CONPLAN), Operations Plan (OPLAN), and operation order (OPORD). Analyze electromagnetic interference and technology associated with space systems and its effect on the Electromagnetic Operating Environment (EMOE). Coordinate with other space stakeholders across AFRICOM, DoD, and the broader interagency community to foster innovative solutions to improve processes and procedures and to promote Operations in the Information Environment (OIE) objectives. Requirements Conditions of Employment One year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must be willing to obtain any vaccinations and pertinent immunizations, and complete any pre-employment screening for country entry. Position is subject to short notice recall during crisis situations and irregular work hours,including weekends and holidays. Incumbent is subject to counterintelligence (CI) polygraph test. This position is subject to alternative duty schedules (including extended shifts; nights, weekends,and/or holidays; being recalled for urgent situations; and/or working overtime in response to surge situations. Qualifications Term Appointment NTE 3 years: Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE3 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years. Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information Direct deposit of pay is required. U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement. Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area. Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
