Software Engineer with Security Clearance

JOB SUMMARY Hughes Design Group is hiring an engineer to provide certification recommendations on GPS military receivers used to navigate United States air space. Ensuring these aircraft receivers comply with aviation requirements is critical to the safety of those flying as well as those on the ground. BACKGROUND The USSF developed the Military Standard Order (MSO) Program which is modeled from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Standard Order (TSO) Authorization (TSOA) process as codified in the United States Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 14 CFR Part 21 Subpart O, Technical Standard Order Approvals. The Precise Positioning Service (PPS) Equipment Certification Office (PECO) acts as the MSO Program certification authority for customers/applicants who seek MSO Authorization (MSOA) on Global Positioning System (GPS) Precise Positioning Service (PPS) User Equipment (UE). The PECO is adding a team member to execute the MSO Program. This position is full-time remote but must be based in the U.S The main focus of the position is to perform software reviews of real-time embedded code to ensure compliance with software development standards of the aviation industry. Prior experience developing embedded software is the primary consideration for this position; other certification functions can be learned. Experience developing aviation software is highly desirable. SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES - Essential Functions (Other duties and projects may be assigned or requested.)
• Perform Certification Authority activities per the MSO Program, including:
o Reviewing customer/applicant Certification Plans and Change Impact Analyses.
o Conducting Software Reviews on the software development process (e.g., DO-178) (desktop and on-site).
o Conducting AEH Reviews on the Airborne Electronic Hardware (AEH) development process (e.g., DO-254) (desktop and on-site).
o Reviewing and approving MSO functional data (e.g., MSO-C145b, DO-229( .
o Supporting customer/applicant meetings and reviews (desktop and on-site).
o Developing official PECO correspondence (e.g., Issue Papers, MSOA Letters).
o Developing MSO standards (e.g., MSO-C145( and related guidance (e.g., templates) and assisting in their approval.
o Staying current with certification authority (e.g., FAA, EASA) and industry (e.g., RTCA, SAE) guidance and incorporating guidance into the MSO Program as appropriate.
o Providing MSO Program technical assistance and advice to government and industry.

• Communicate with project team members to identify scope of work, schedule, and risks.

• Identify potential certification issues and any adverse impact; communicate any certification related information to team. Analyze problems and derive appropriate solutions.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date certification records.

• Maintain and protect the confidentiality of all involved Companies' information and products. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS - Education, Knowledge, and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or similar technical discipline is required.

• Operational knowledge of RTCA DO-178 and DO-254.

• Operational knowledge of TSO program processes and general FAA regulations and guidance.

• Basic knowledge of GPS and how MOPS such as RTCA DO-229 are invoked for equipment certification.

• Able to analyze FAA regulatory requirements and advisory materials.

• Exceptional organizational skills, self-motivation, a sense of urgency and sensitivity to deadlines, and detail oriented.

• Technical writing ability.

• Ability to communicate and present both orally and written.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a broader team.

• Possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. OTHER
