Our client in Topeka, KS, is looking for SOARS Benefits Specialist. The SOAR program helps people at risk of homelessness due to mental illness or health issues get Social Security disability benefits. This SOAR Benefits Specialist will focus on patients discharged from hospital, ensuring they access these benefits.
The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, ability to build rapport and analyze and summarize the information which will align successfully in the organization.

Job Title: SOARS Benefits Specialist
Location: Remote - Topeka, KS 66603 (North Central Flint Hills) onsite for hospital visits as needed
Pay Range: $20/hr.
Job Type: Contract to Hire


What's the Job?

  • Identify potential candidates through outreach and referrals.
  • Complete applications for SSI/SSDI benefit and Presumptive Medicaid.
  • Gather medical documentation and write reports to support applications.
  • Accompany clients to appointments and coordinate with medical providers.
  • Track client services provided and offers additional training or assistance.
What's Needed?
  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral health or related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years working with homeless individuals with mental illness OR experience in a state hospital
  • Familiarity with government and social service resources (plus)
  • Experience working with people in crisis and mental health, data tracking, and teamwork
  • Knowledge of Social Security benefits (SSA Blue Book preferred).
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Must be located in or near Topeka, KS 66603
