Small Craft Operator

This position is located at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in the Facility Maintenance Division. Oversees safety aspects of all operations, such as power navigational operations, safety of cargo and personnel, proper loading of cargo. Assist the Dive Leader in all aspects of the navigational aids program on Lake Powell. Operates inboard and outboard boats with single and twin engines up to 42' in length, and 32' Nudget pushing 46' barges. Performs dive operations (SCUBA) for lake bottom debris and trash removal and inspections under marinas to control and monitor concessions operations and their possible pollution of the lake. Maintains records and reports on buoys, floating structures, and equipment maintenance ensures that all required reports are done accurately and submitted in a timely manner. Career-Seasonal positions and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season is November to October but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position requires for you to currently hold an Open Water SCUBA certification from the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) or Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) or another recognized dive association for depths up to 100 feet. Provide a copy of your certification. In the assessment questionnaire, you will be given an opportunity to provide additional information pertaining to your certification. If you do not currently hold a certification, your application will no longer be considered. (SCREEN-OUT). (4) Performing proper loading of the vessel in accordance with capability of the vessel, and wind/weather conditions. (5) Repairing winches and anchoring systems on docks and buoys. (6) Trade experience in any of the following: welding, painting, carpentry, and operation of motor vehicles. 4 A.
