Summary This position is located at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in the Facility Maintenance Division. Responsibilities Oversees safety aspects of all operations, such as power navigational operations, safety of cargo and personnel, proper loading of cargo. Assist the Dive Leader in all aspects of the navigational aids program on Lake Powell. Operates inboard and outboard boats with single and twin engines up to 42' in length, and 32' Nudget pushing 46' barges. Performs dive operations (SCUBA) for lake bottom debris and trash removal and inspections under marinas to control and monitor concessions operations and their possible pollution of the lake. Maintains records and reports on buoys, floating structures, and equipment maintenance ensures that all required reports are done accurately and submitted in a timely manner. Career-Seasonal positions and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season is November to October but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime. You will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. You are required to maintain an Open Water SCUBA certification from the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) or Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) or another recognized dive association for depths up to 100 feet. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Qualifications SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position requires for you to currently hold an Open Water SCUBA certification from the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) or Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) or another recognized dive association for depths up to 100 feet. Provide a copy of your certification. In the assessment questionnaire, you will be given an opportunity to provide additional information pertaining to your certification. If you do not currently hold a certification, your application will no longer be considered. (SCREEN-OUT). Examples of experience include: (1) Operating and maintaining watercrafts up to 45 ft, inboard and outboard, and operate 32 ft push boat and barge. (2) Operating a front-end loader, forklift, and other machinery. (3) Appling basic rules of the road in operation; docking and undocking. (4) Performing proper loading of the vessel in accordance with capability of the vessel, and wind/weather conditions. (5) Repairing winches and anchoring systems on docks and buoys. (6) Trade experience in any of the following: welding, painting, carpentry, and operation of motor vehicles. 4 A. I have independently performed all of the following without more than normal supervision: 1) Operating and maintaining watercrafts up to 45 ft, inboard and outboard, and operate 32 ft push boat and barge. Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding and bend, stoop, climb and work in awkward positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors. Operators are exposed to possible falls on deck and to the possibility of falling overboard. A life jacket is work all the times when on deck. May work in confined spaces and may be exposed to fuels, greases, oils and other lubricants; and paint and solvent fumes; extremely dusty conditions and other environmental conditions. May operate vehicles and boats in stormy conditions, including high winds. Works with and around power driven tools and hand tools. Protective clothing is available and required when warranted. Will be required to fly as a passenger in light aircraft.
