Sitka, AK/Trauma-informed Blatchley Middle School PURPOSE Sitka AmeriCorps Program mission is to mitigate the effects of high ACEs scores prevalent in rural Alaskan communities, through developmental relationships and enrichment activities. Mission: The Sitka School District will intentionally develop Haa Latseení (Our Strength of Mind, Body, and Spirit) to inspire and prepare students to be compassionate, empowered, and equipped critical thinkers within a global community. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES Working in a team setting, this position requires building positive relationships with students, families, and faculty. These relationships are the basis with which to facilitate enrichment opportunities for students. At the start of the school year the member will meet with the administrative team and determine the specifics of the member duties. The member will be meeting the current needs of the organization as assessed at that time, and will fill in gaps in services provided by the school. Further help on this page can be found by clicking here. Member Duties : Duties may include: Afterschool homework help and enrichment programming. Work with grade level teams to develop wrap around services for students with high ACE's scores. Provide 1:1 academic interventions. Role model positive behavior and support social emotional learning through the BMS positive behavior support system. Recruit volunteers for afterschool programs. Invited to participate in staff meetings 1 x per week. Coordinate/facilitate extended enrichment opportunities Provide enrichment and tutoring for youth both before and after school. Build developmental relationships during lunch and recess. Sanitize classrooms. Provide mental health support for students. Drive students to various activities. Carry out long-term side projects. Make photocopies. Team teaching in the classroom. Chaperone school sponsored events.
