The Simulation Technician - Health Sciences works with the nursing education faculty to develop and deliver simulation-based education designed to enhance student learning, quality in healthcare, and patient safety. The focus of the Simulation Technician is to provide technical support for all simulation operations including preparation, maintenance, repair of mid and high-fidelity manikins and task trainers and related multimedia applications. Duties may also include programming, testing, and helping facilitate scenarios with faculty, assuring that the rooms and equipment are set up and turned over for scenarios. Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution with major course work related to assigned area of responsibility or equivalent; a degree in computer science, management information technology, or information technology is preferred Two years in work-related experience in the healthcare field Positive interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful, and cooperative working relationship Clinical experience working in healthcare Proficient in MS Office, Excel, and have the ability to learn additional software programs including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment Adapt to quickly implement new technology Express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons Proper use of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology A combination of education, training and/or experience may be used to demonstrate the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of this position Working Conditions Simulated healthcare space Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and bending is required Ability to hear audible equipment indicators and verbal communications in the environment General manual dexterity Operating equipment and extended exposure to computer screens The duties of the Simulation Technician - Health Sciences include, but are not limited to: Maintain current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals Program simulator software to model simulator's physiological responses to instructor specifications Operate patient simulators and cameras for the duration of simulations Operate and maintain audio-visual and debriefing systems Assemble and disassemble simulation lab equipment, which may involve rapid turnover of simulation lab set up Maintain inventory of simulation equipment Assist with maintenance and repairs of simulation equipment including: patient simulators, computers, monitors, and a variety of medical equipment Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, report to program chair or faculty and contact vendors as assigned Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia applications including: Beds, patient monitors, and other healthcare related equipment Medication dispensing systems Construct theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested Mixes fake body fluids Creates wounds Positions simulators for patient scenarios Maintain simulation activities Maintain confidentiality of information Lenoir Community College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
