The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Utility Service Worker.

This position is Full-Time, Non-Exempt based on a 40-hour work week with an hourly range of $20.909 - $29.4992. This position is part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) collective bargaining unit. The individual in this position will work in the Water Distribution building located at 1900 2nd Avenue North, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for participating in the repair, maintenance, and construction of sewer mains & lines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participates in the maintenance, repair, and construction of water and wastewater mains and lines.
  • Investigate and inspect wastewater collection systems.
  • Install, maintain, excavate, repair, replace, backfill and locate wastewater infrastructure.
  • Backfills all excavated areas.
  • Provides traffic control at work sites to ensure a safe working environment. Places and gathers cones, flags, set out traffic signs, etc.
  • Connects and disconnects water and sewer services.
  • Responds to complaints and sewer backup's.
  • Responds to emergency service calls as required.
  • Fills out and completes paperwork, forms and work orders for assigned jobs.
  • Assists in the basic operation, inspection, and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the construction and installation, maintenance and repair of watermains and related appurtenances.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to do heavy lifting and carrying, and to work occasionally outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees and general public.
  • Ability to accurately read system maps and blueprints.
  • Must be knowledgeable of service area.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma/GED

Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.

One year of experience in general underground utility construction maintenance or plumbing activities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
