The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Utility Service Worker.This position is Full-Time, Non-Exempt based on a 40-hour work week with an hourly range of $20.909 - $29.4992. This position is part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) collective bargaining unit. SUMMARY:This position is responsible for participating in the repair, maintenance, and construction of sewer mains & lines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Participates in the maintenance, repair, and construction of water and wastewater mains and lines.
- Investigate and inspect wastewater collection systems.
- Install, maintain, excavate, repair, replace, backfill and locate wastewater infrastructure.
- Backfills all excavated areas.
- Provides traffic control at work sites to ensure a safe working environment. Places and gathers cones, flags, set out traffic signs, etc.
- Connects and disconnects water and sewer services.
- Responds to complaints and sewer backup's.
- Responds to emergency service calls as required.
- Fills out and completes paperwork, forms and work orders for assigned jobs.
- Assists in the basic operation, inspection, and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:- Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in the construction and installation, maintenance and repair of watermains and related appurtenances.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to do heavy lifting and carrying, and to work occasionally outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other employees and general public.
- Ability to accurately read system maps and blueprints.
- Must be knowledgeable of service area.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High School Diploma/GED
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
One year of experience in general underground utility construction maintenance or plumbing activities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
