Embracing Service, Inspiring Innovation, Promoting Teamwork, Pursuing Excellence, and Advancing Equity This position serves as the Senior Water Quality Compliance InspectorTeam Lead for the Bureau of Environmental Health Services, Myrtle Beachoffice. You will be implementing the regional agricultural wastewater program as well as supervising the team responsible for implementing the regionaldrinking water, recreational water, wastewater, stormwater,and beachfront monitoringprograms in support of DHEC's vision: Healthy people living in healthy communities. Job Functions: Supervises a team of water quality compliance inspectors. Conduct routine inspections of agricultural wastewater, wastewater, and stormwater facilities to determine compliance with the regulations, the Environmental Affairs standard operating procedures, and the Bureau of Water schedule frequency. Respond to and investigate complaints on agricultural wastewater, wastewater, and stormwater facilities and unpermitted sites. Provide expert level technical assistance to the regulated community and public when necessary or requested. Minimum and Additional Requirements Abachelor's degree in related technical field and one (1) year of environmental health or related experience; OR an associate degree in related technical field and three (3) years of environmental health or related experience; OR high school diploma or GED, and five (5) years of environmental health or related experience. Notes: Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, environmental science, etc. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to provide outstanding customer service in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Work effectively in a team-oriented environment and encourage positive working relationships with coworkers, industry, and government officials. Work independently in a field environment. Ability to successfully complete prescribed technical coursework and pass any test relevant to the position within the probationary period or trial period. Work in all reasonable weather conditions and access non-traditional work environments. May require: Daily travel throughout the state. Occasional overnight travel. Participation on the Environmental Response Team and is subject to on call or call back 24/7. Preferred Qualifications Experience and knowledge with federal and state agricultural wastewater, wastewater, and stormwaterpermitting and compliance requirements. Experience and knowledge with agricultural wastewater, wastewater, and stormwater inspection processes, standard operating procedures, compliance and enforcement guidelines, and other related processes and procedures. Additional Comments This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control'sBureau of Environmental Health Services. The work performed supports DHEC's mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Environmental Servicescreated by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Environmental Servicesto assume the environmental-related functionsof DHEC.
