ABOUT THE ROLE

Inc. Business Media is looking for a senior staff editor for tech who will be responsible for generating, assigning, and editing features, short-form stories, and news stories for digital platforms. This editor will work directly with Inc. journalists and outside contributors, providing consistent and constructive feedback on stories and essays/contributed pieces. They should offer insight, perspective and sources on their areas of subject matter expertise to fellow editorial team members. The senior staff editor is encouraged to take a lead role in securing syndicated content and outside voices to amplify the work of tech section journalists. They are encouraged to moderate or host discussions at Inc. editorial conferences, and to represent Inc. Business Media at outside events.

Salary range: $81,000 - $95,000 + bonus eligible. Compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, industry, and education.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Generate, assign, edit timely and compelling stories and essays for the tech section.
  • Provide consistent and constructive feedback on drafts, providing specific advice on writing, reporting, organization, and tone.
  • Advise editors and colleagues of newsworthy stories or editorial packages; support and/or lead coverage where appropriate.
  • Brainstorm and share resources with other staff.
  • Invite and secure guest columnists and timely contributors to write for Inc.
  • Help manage editorial aspects of a signature recognition programs, working closely with various departments, including but not limited to direct-to-consumer, integrated marketing, custom, ad sales, events, growth, and public relations.
  • Contribute to Inc. culture by upholding our ethical standards, collaborating with editors, and especially offering guidance to early-career staff journalists.
  • Supervise Tech staff and freelance contributors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of editorial experience.
  • Ability to edit with speed, precision, and accuracy.

  • Outstanding news judgment, with a canny ability to identify Inc. angles on the news.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
  • Track record of accuracy and ethics.
  • Penchant for creativity and critical thinking.
