Precigen is seeking a highly motivated and creative Senior Scientist, Adenovector Research and Development (level determined by candidate experience) with demonstrated experience in adenovectors for cell and gene therapy to support our research and development initiatives in our Germantown, MD office. This role will work within and between departments, carryout a variety of diverse laboratory procedures, work under general supervision and work well in a team and independently. We are seeking candidates looking for a fast paced, exciting working environment utilizing state of the art technology. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the use of adenovirus vectors for therapeutics. This includes being up-to-date in the field of gene therapy, vaccines and relevant scientific areas and scientific literature. The candidate is expected to keep abreast of current technologies to advance Precigen programs and technology platforms. The candidate must have both written and verbal communication skills and have experience with maintaining excellent records, SOPs, as well as technical and experimental reports. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist Director with the planning of the experimental designs, inclusive of all appropriate controls to evaluate the gene products in tissue culture and downstream assays. Work within a team structure, both departmentally and program team based, and will be a go to person to provide technical trouble shooting and expertise to other team members. Provide technical guidance to successfully execute complicated experimental objectives. Design, discover and develop cell based assays needed for testing, and release of adenovector, these include cell based activity, transgene expression, quantitative PCR, and other bioactivity assays Carry out a variety of diverse laboratory procedures. Develop protocols, train and assist Research Associates. Prepare data reports and presentations. Assist in preparing technical reports and summaries and provides input to the interpretation of experimental results. Provide trouble shooting expertise to the department in the following techniques: cell culture, virus culture, in vitro and in vivo assays. Attend and present results at department/team meetings. Comply with all applicable policies regarding health, safety, and the environment. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree or Ph.D in molecular biology, virology, biochemistry or related field. Minimum of four (4) to five (5) years of experience in a small to medium biotech/biopharma setting or in an active relevant academic research laboratory. Experience in adenovectors for cell and gene therapy required. Demonstrated experience in the design and execution of cell based transgene expression assays such as ELISA, Western blot and Quantitative PCR. Experience in the setup, running, and analysis of Real Time PCR and RTPCR assays. Experience with bioinformatics tools such as Geneious, GCK, Vector NTI, DNA star, NCBI Blast and primer design software. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Solid verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information in a clear and concise manner; and to write clear and concise technical reports. Organizes work effectively and uses time efficiently. DESIRED KEY COMPETENCIES: Self-motivated and independently minded.
