Based in Watertown, MA and reporting to the Director, Formulation Development, this position is responsible for leading late-stage ocular drug product development, from Phase III through early commercialization. The individual we are seeking will have a strong laboratory presence and well-established technical excellence in drug product development in, authoring technical report, and overseeing the tech transfer at scale. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated capabilities in working cross-functionally with internal stake holders and effectively managing development activities at external vendors. The position holder needs to have a broad range of knowledge across the various functional areas in pharmaceutical development, understand manufacturing technologies, people and organizational structures. The role enables high performing internal and external development teams to successfully develop, commercialize, and file products. This position is based in Watertown, MA and offers flexible work hours. Responsibilities Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Individual responsibilities Lead late stage ocular drug product development. Collaborate with Operation/Device/Analytical Team and CMO from Phase III through early commercialization Identify and implement improvements to existing EyePoint technologies. Identify and implement solutions to challenges with existing EyePoint products. Build expertise and knowledge around ocular drug product formulations and summarize findings in scientific papers and technical reports. Generate data for project progression and regulatory filings, conduct optimization and process scale up studies. Scientifically interpret complex data sets and provide sound recommendations for successful product and formulation development. Present experimental plans and data to senior management and CMC, manufacturing and project leadership. Maintain knowledge with up-to-date scientific literature in the field of ocular drug delivery. Transfer technical knowledge to CMO for scale up of formulation and process optimization. Provide guidance for other research staff and advise about quality, timeliness and accuracy of work done. Qualifications Primary skills and knowledge required include, but are not limited to the following: Experience in late stage development (Phase III to commercialization) of solid dosage form Solid understanding of pharmaceutical and engineering principles in drug development. Experience in formulation development of small molecules Experience in ocular drug product development is a plus Experience in injectable drug products development is a plus. Experience in extrusion is a plus. Hands on experience with formulation techniques, processing equipment, and unit operations for laboratory, clinical, and commercial manufacturing scales. Hands-on experience with physicochemical and analytical techniques such as DSC, TGA, XRPD, HPLC, SEM, PSD, KF, and Dissolution. Understanding of FTIR, NMR, and RAMAN analytical techniques, a plus. Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills. Detail-oriented; ability to multitask and work on a few projects concurrently. Team player and ability to quickly adapt to any changes in project priorities. Level of Education Required Field of Study: 5 to 8 years of pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical experience for PhD level. 10+ years of pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical experience for MS level.
