Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biomedical sciences or a related field. Two (2) years of research experience in a laboratory setting. Experience in genetics, molecular and/or cell biology. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Genetics/Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Developmental biology. Competent in Drosophila genetics, Dissection, immunostaining and confocal microscopy, molecular biology (PCR, cloning, and site-directed mutagenesis, RT-PCR). Experience with mammalian cell culture and imaging with confocal microscopy. Experience with expression (E. coli, yeast, and mammalian cells) and purification of proteins. Proficient in scientific writing. Brief Description of Duties: The Mistra laboratory at Stony Brook is looking for Senior Research Support Specialist to join our starting group. Our NIH/ funded research is centered on growth regulation by Hippo signaling during Drosophila development as well as cancer. We use Drosophila developmental genetics, cell biology and biochemistry to address these questions. Substantial training will be provided for techniques. The applicant should have the ability to demonstrate professional competence in research activities. Working under general supervision in support of the Misra Laboratory for Dr. Mistra in the Department of Pharmacology, the incumbent will operate equipment, carry out test procedures as well as collate and interpret data using special methods. Duties: Develop, monitor, coordinate and manage activities to maintain effective operation of the program. Maintain Drosophila stocks, setup genetic crosses, perform dissections, immunostaining, and confocal microscopy. Perform Drosophila cell culture with sterile techniques. Perform biochemical analysis through Western Blotting etc. Molecular cloning, RNA and DNA preparation, and purification of recombinant protein from E.coli, insect cells. Data analysis and participate in manuscript writing for publication; may assist in grant writing. Procurement. Maintain laboratory reagents and equipment. Perform other duties as assigned such as training new personnel. Other duties as assigned. Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.
